No problem. I have lived in both Albuquerque and Las Vegas, so if there is anything else you need to know, feel free to ask.

I meant sign up for. Those sites dont require certifications, but it will help obtain more work orders though. Some buyers will route to techs only with certs

I didn't realize you also lived in ABQ - what was your perception of it? (SOrry I can't find your post if you were describing it).

I knew you were from Phoenix (and I share your uninterest in that city), and I share your zest/interest in Las Vegas. So I'm a bit curious your take on ABQ.

It is kind of a long story. I lost my house, driver's license, job etc in December of 2004. I moved to Las Vegas, living out of my car. I did not like that, so I called my friend who lived in Albuquerque. I went from Las Vegas to Albuquerque for 2 months or so around January of 2005. My friend from Phoenix moved out their years earlier to go to Sipi college. He got a job at Intel (Rio Rancho) making good money, so he said I could live there for free with him. I did not care for Albuquerque. I was bored there, and could not find any work at all. It was also very cold, which I hate. The casinos there suck too, the cocktail waitresses serve soda LOL, and you can not drink on the casino floor. The only thing I liked was the landscaping, and the air is cleaner. After 2 months realizing I was not going to find any work, I left, and came back to Vegas, even know I was going to be homeless again. Sadly, I wound up losing almost all of my savings, and had to go back to Phoenix in March of 2005, where I remained for the next year.

Edit: I thought I had listed Albuquerque on my previous locations, but I see I forgot it. This has been fixed now.

Cool...that was more or less my impression of ABQ as well. Interesting story in there as well. I also never read profiles, so now I'm aware there are stuff in them to read

Come to think of it I do. The owners for the business I work for have sister clubs in Phx and Tucson. I was offered a transfer to Phx about 3 years ago. Now I'm totally regretting that I didn't take it. I guess I could still ask for a transfer even though I'm not in good terms with one of the brothers (5 bothers, all equal owners).

Going to Phx will actually be an easier move for me than going to LV since I'll have a job lined up. I haven't been to Phx in about 10yrs. I know the unemployment rate is lower there than in LV and I'm wondering if you know anything about how the IT industry is there compared to LV. One of the main reasons way I'm leaning towards LV is because if I'm going to be a Doorman, I might as well do it at a place where I can make lots of money. Then once settled in transition to IT (either basic entry level job/starting own business).

I would think that there are more IT companies in Phoenix. Phoenix is does not have a tourist based economy like Vegas. The unemployment rate in Phoenix is 8.6 versus 13.4 in Vegas.

Make sure you have a source of income first D.A., before moving here. Competition is stiff, there are not that many "doormen", unless you mean bell hops or valets, even those jobs are hard to come by nowadays. And the tips in those jobs that used to supplement a meager income have now gone way down. People just don't throw around the cash they really didn't have anymore. Even low-wage menial jobs are hard to come by now....

Bring enough cash to live on for at least a few months until you either get a job or start your own business. Once you've got that squared away, you'll be able to enjoy Las Vegas all the time!

Much good luck to you!

The one thing about the IT industry there is that there are so many companies (or atleast used to be) starting up that the need for IT was big--initial setups, re-do's, outsourced admin, etc that I used to get 3-4 new companies signed up a month for clients. As far as getting into the casinos IT, that might prove to be difficult unless you know unix, or are certified in security (CISSP, etc)
