They must be expecting a poor turnout for New Year's Eve because we got an offer in the mail for 3 nights including New Year's Eve. The last time that happened was right after 9/11/01.

Wow! I can remember making my next years reservation almost a year in advance. Even then sometimes I ended up in some kind of lottery for a room.

I am thinking that the opening of City Center will negatively impact other MGM properties.

Your observation is 100% correct. A personal friend of mine is a dealer at New York New York. She has told me they are in a world of hurt, and really do not know what to do anymore. One thing they keep trying is constantly adjusting table limits, which has backfired. When they raise the limit, no one plays. Then they lower the limit, and people start playing again. It is an endless cycle because at the lower limits, the casino is not making enough money. They truly are a victim of the economy.

Casinos will still make money at the lower limits.. Just not at the expected forcasts they were expecting.. They just have to get rid of the "Greed" factor..

Oh, never been here for New Year's. What is the most fun and best thing to do here for New Year's Eve that doesn't involve deafening music and naked drunks slobbering all over you?

I like to drink and listen to decent music. Just don't want second rate venue with losers.

I have lived here 3 and a half years, and have never once seen naked drunks running around here. That being said, the Fremont Street Experience would probably be a place you might like.

Oh, sorry I was confusing New Year's in Vegas with Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

I agree.

The money came pouring in from around 2000-2006, but no one was paying attention to the fact that it was an aberation due to a variety of economic factors not the least of which was nearly unlimited use of HELOC's to get cash people otherwise would not have.

Truth is, most people don't have $2-5K to drop in a night of partying, and the casino execs that created business plans based on that economic model were complete abject failures.

Money is still pouring in, but not at levels that will support the casino lifestyle that came into existence earlier this decade.
