The reservations clerk warned us that the strip closes at 5pm on 12/31 so we need to arrive early. This will be our first New Year's Eve in Las Vegas. We don't want to go to any clubs for a party. What can we expect along the Las Vegas strip on New Year's Eve? Will the monorail be packed? Thanks.

Monorail might be bad because most of the strip casinos wont let you in after a certain time unless you are staying there. I think around 8pm.

I stayed at Strat one new years eve and never will again. It was way too long a walk to the main area of the strip. IMO, either party whereever you stay, or pony up and pay to stay in the main part of the strip.

Be prepared for everything to cost more than it normally does. Table limits are raised. It could turn out to be a very expensive night if you plan on hanging around all night in a casino gambling, drinking and paying for food. Outside on the Strip where you can watch the fireworks, the cold can cut right through you with the strong winds and colder temps. Be prepared to lug a coat around with you all night.

We have visitors coming from out of town and everyone thinks they want to go to the Strip. Should we drop em off by 5:00pm
When can we pick them up? When do they open the Strip back up?

I looked into that and it seems like that would be right up our alley. Thanks for the tip!
