Doesn't hold water? Of course it does, it is perfectly valid. Employees are mobile and have the freedom to choose where they work. If they don't like their work environment, whether it's because it is loud, their boss sucks, or people smoke, they are free to leave. Taking away the freedom of the business to cater to smokers just hurts consumers.

Second hand smoke being harmful is mostly a myth anyway. If you look at the evidence that people used to justify the argument you will learn that while it is unpleasant, second hand smoke is not very harmful. The 1993 EPA report is what paved the way for the campaign and it was not statistically valid. It has been busted many times since it was released, both because the statistics behind it are not legitimate and because the claims are highly exaggerated. Check it out here, The EPA Report on Second Hand Smoke (SHS) - The Facts, or google for other sites if you don't like that one- there are plenty.

I think smoking is disgusting and I would never allow it in my business, but I respect the rights of people to cater to those who do and don't think it is fair to force your preference on others, especially if backed by junk science.

In my opinion, the casinos will be the LAST place on the planet to go smoke less (I say less because when someone takes away your option to smoke or not you are not "free")

For all the bashing smoking gets, I still hear and people saying "Don't tell so and so I am smoking because I only smoke in Vegas" around town.

Lots of Vegas only smokers out there, and gambling and smoking go hand in hand.

Atlantic City is a totally different story.. most of the east coast are a whole lot more compliance minded, and will do as they are told. Out here we got a new smoking law and its largely ignored.. unlike AC where they will actually listen to the nannies and put out their cigg.

Nothing against east coast people (Used to be one myself from NYC) but its just a different atmosphere out here. People are more free thinking and don't like to be told what to do.

Believe it or not.. I don't like smokey casinos and I smoke.. but with the new filtering systems that are in most of the larger places, you would have to be neurotic to even notice the smell.. they do a really good job of filtering out the stuff. Then again, we are talking about the type of people who start coughing when you take your ciggarette pack out of your pocket.. lol... if that's you.. then yes, you might "smell smoke" in a casino these days on the strip.
