I suspect they have an emergency vent and a procedure for a breakaway.

More scarey would be sudden and unexpected wind gusts...Hate to be in that thing if it started to bounce.

Ever do touch and goes in a hot air baloon...particularly in a little wind?

Ain't even a little boring.

The ones at Lone Mountain can often follow a course and end up back where they began or at least close.

I'd ride it in heart beat. But then again I'm a bit of an aviation geek

I'd give it a try. Saw it today and it's bigger than it looks if that makes any sense. I wonder how many people can go up at a time?

The Stratosphere is not free, but it is a fantastic view of the whole valley as well as the Strip and the mountains. I don't know who decided there is no view of the Strip from there. It is hard to take pictures due to the security barriers. The balloon is just something different to do and I'm betting it will be worth the price. As I recall Tour Eiffel isn't free, it's a long wait in line, and the view sucks because you can't get close enough to the windows even if there weren't 100 people in front of you, and there are struts blocking the view. But it too is something to do.
A measly $27.50 to someone without work is not pocket change. That same amount can get food for a week.

It probably does have a vent but does it have a means to put helium back into it fast enough to prevent a very hard landing? The higher they go during a breakaway situation the more helium they have to let out and the harder the landing if they can't get helium back into it before landing. I need to research it. I know the FAA regulates its max altitude while tethered but is it rated as an aircraft or a carnival ride?

Hot air balloon from Napa to Africa, now that is some tailwind.

I found out it's actually a "measly" $22.50. Still, that's a lot for some of us that are finding it hard to pay bills and such. But when things improve, I will be on that thing, hopefully with a locals discount.

Well nobody is going to hold a gun to your head and make you ride it...But if you are here on vacation you probably have a measly $27.50 in your pocket for lunch. The point is people are already condemning it without ever having taken the ride themselves. They didn't say they couldn't afford it, just that it wasn't worth the price. The owners must have projected out how much it will cost them to offer the ride, and how much they need to charge to make a little profit. Oh! Sorry, I didn't mean to offend the Michael Moore's here when I mention that dirty word, "profit".

Having a bad week buzzy? I am NOT condeming the ride. I would like to ride it. But at this time in my life, without work, living week to week, month to month, it's not happening. But when I can, I will be up there waving my pink string like crazy.
