Yep...I can testify to that. We also drove our bikes with no helmets...and I don't know a single kid personally that ever died from not wearing one.

Kids are pretty resilient. There are some accidents and pitfalls everywhere. They are just that accidents. Kids die in sledding accidents in the snow, for which there is very little in LV.

and Olecapt...that's Beautiful Upstate NY.

This.

I was born and raised in Vegas. As a kid, I was impervious to the heat. My mother would turn me loose in the morning and I'd never come back inside until she made me, which she would do. She'd have me come inside, make me drink a big glass of water, tell me to stop running around before I died of a heat stroke, then turn me loose again.

I visit Vegas frequently and I don't know what's happened to me. The bay area climate has softened me. Now, when I'm walking around Vegas in say, July/August, I wonder how it is that I didn't die of heat stroke back then. My hope is that if I ever ultimately return to Vegas for good, that I acclimate to the heat reasonably well.

Know what? Fine. Vegas is a great place to bring your children. From now on I'm going to be a rose spectacled pollyanna like the rest of you Vegas lovers. You'll see it in my future posts. You know why? Because I WANT people to buy houses here. I've come to the realization that I don't care if other people are crazy and misinformed. I have a stake in this town's economy. My exodus depends upon it.

A preview:

Vegas is a family town, let's face it. The summers here are wonderful. Kids love it. The younger ones don't always die when they're locked in the car or are abducted and tortured by all the migrated perverts. Why? Because they're resilient. Most of them can take a bullet or two in the gang crossfire that is spilling in from L.A. And there are so many friendly dogs for them to play with. Every yard has at least one pittbull or rottweiller. Heck, I LOVE it here. So much so that I'm going to cry when I have to sell my house when it returns to break-even value. It may take a while of course, since we have the highest rate of foreclosure in the US and our jobless rate is increasing, but I have plenty of time.

What are you waiting for OP? Come on down. Don't let these naysayers (my former self included) dissuade you! And remember good ol'Zod told you: 115 degrees average in July is a dry heat.

You are one of the true examples of arnold schwarzenegger's phrase "girlie man." I too am pissed off with this city right now, but I do not make stupid outright lies about it like you do. Do some research first before posting. It has not hit 115 degrees even once this year, or last year for that matter. The average temperature is July is 106 degreees.

LOL... well, Zod, I found your post quite entertaining! LOL While others may like it here and it meet their needs, I'm in the band wagon with you --- I don't like it and it does not meet my needs or that of my children. But, we've learned to deal with it. It is expensive and a LOT of the people here are AH's. Just no other way around it. It is what it is. People that haven't experienced living here think it's all that until they actually get here and found out it ain't all that.

As for me and mine, we'll be doing the normal work-home, school-home routine for the next year and a half --- at least, if the job holds out, and then I plan on getting the hell out of here for good! Looking back? Oh, heck no! Folks that luv it here can have it. I'm going East of the Rockies and West of the Appalachian. That is where the greener grass grows.

Unfortunately, like me, Zod, you might be stuck here that long too. As I learn more about the expected foreclosures yet to come, it does not look pretty. But, on a brighter note, with the Asian gaming population coming back to Vegas, which is, of course, 70% of Vegas business, the casinos just might hang on a little longer.

Actually if you want green try Portland. Go where the rains come and no strong winter.

The demographics of Las Vegas visitors are among the best known in the world. About 2% are Asian or Asian/American. About 15% are foreign including Asians. The major source of LV visitors remains California.

Actually, you come off sounding bitter and depressed of being stuck in a place that you want out of desperately. Maybe even a little crazed...like you might go postal in a casino tomorrow...like "Man Kills 23 In Casino, Before Killing Himself" crazy.

My advice...prepare for the long haul. If you wake up every day wanting to be somewhere else....it's going to make you nuts. Find whatever good you can in your present situation while you still pursue your goal of getting out...but just don't live each day like it's going to happen tomorrow. Evaluate monthly. Good luck in reaching your goal.

I work for a large gaming company. I have seen the numbers from data mining. 70% of casino based business is from the Asian population. If you wonder why no smoking in casinos will never pass, look at the Asian population. It's cultural as is gaming. If LV had only 2% LV would definitely need OXYGEN administered at 96% cause there would be no LV then.
