I got a couple DMs about this so I thought I would just go ahead and post.

The Hispanic markets, in my experience, aren't the all around low price leader. I have what I think is a logical system.

1) Most of the flyers/sales ads come out on Tuesday and the sales prices start on Wednesday. When I get the ads I look thru them and make a list of what I want to buy.

2) On Wednesday, I start at the 99cents only store. That also happens to be the day they get a truckload of supplies in. Bread/bagels, pasta, cleaning supplies, bologna, liverwurst, butter, jelly, cream cheese, hot dogs, pepperoni, paper goods, junk food, are all usually cheaper here.

3) Next, I hit the Hispanic market. Most likely Liborio. Usually the best deals are on meat, fruit, and veggies. There are a few other things that cost less for no ascertainable reason. You just have to look.

4) Then I pick up whatever is still on the list, usually from Smiths. And anything else I really wanted that was on sale. This week it was corned beef brisket. I always buy smoked salmon there too. They sell small pieces really cheap!

5) The rest of the week, I do what I call opportunity shopping. Whenever I am close to a market like Fresh and Easy, I drop in and take a quick cruise through. You never know what you will find.

I need to learn some new tricks! What are your best tactics?

All great ideas, but it's easy to fall victim to being penny wise and dollar foolish, and neglecting to include the price of gas and wear and tear on your vehicle.

Time is extremely precious to me, and driving a car stresses me out even before putting the key into the ignition. The risks of accidents should also be considered in hunting down food bargains.

On my "Friday" from work, which is actually Tuesday morning at 6AM, I make a sweep between my work and my house. If it's on my way home, fine, if not, I'm not about to squander even 10 minutes of my off days to hunt down a bargain via car. Once I get home, it would take a tow truck get me out of my house.

I do have a bicycle. Easy walk/bike to Fresh & Easy, Albertson's, Food4Less, King Ranch. If there's a bargain there, I might bike over there. 99 cent stores are almost 3 miles away. Way too far for me to go through all the hassle of getting there to save a buck or two. Like I said, in a previous post, I have a freezer with my Refrig, also a big stand-up freezer, if they have a bargain on chicken or pork or beef at any store, I buy large quantities.

Buying in bulk when there's a sale makes good sense. I understand the value of time thing. I was with you there for years. This is the first time in my life I haven't worked full time. So it's a change for me, but my time isn't as valuable as it used to be. At least not in terms of dollars per hour.

I always wanted to know if there was considerable savings if you shopped several stores. Turns out there is. Luckily, Vegas is a small city and there's nothing that's really far away. I'd like to ride my bike but I've never found one that would let you carry a lot of stuff.

I have a big basket in front, and two side baskets in the back of my bike.
A backpack also can come in handy, whether on a bike or just walking to the store. It can be done.
