I guess I'd better get ready to suck it up because I'm not going to drop money gambling and as far as meals, we'll be leaving and going to our favorite restaurants instead of eatting there.
Or you could make the most of the charge. That link said the following about Red Rock: "At the Red Rock Resort a fee of $24.99 is tacked onto your bill and that includes internet service, unlimited local and 800 calls, fitness center access, daily local newspaper, shoe shine service and airport shuttle service."

I'd bring my laptop and play games on the net then complain if it wasn't fast enough. Call a lot of places especially the operator to get local phone numbers of places you might want to visit. Go to the fitness center and ride a bike or walk on a tread mill. Complain if it is crowded or you don't have enough towels. Have your shoes shined every day because you know LV is desert and shoes get dusty (you should see mine right now). Make sure you take their airport shuttle to and from so you get the biggest bang for the buck. Hey, I figure, if you're going to be charged for it, might as well get the most use out of it, right?

That's very funny. Good thinking. Actually I don't have a laptop, I would say my shoes are unshineable, we pick up our rental car from the airport but I could work the heck out of the phone doing that as you said. Now that I've learned the resort fee is a somewhat commonly used rip off, I will start looking at the room rate as the sum total without breaking out the fee and if I can't accept that, I'll just make other plans.

Whenever this happens on a trip when I would not use any of the "perks" they are charging me for I just ask the Front Desk Manager to kindy remove them. I have never had any issues.

I wouldn't say that so matter of factly. I booked the Westin through priceline and got to the checkin, which was fairly packed, well the lady offered me and my group of 3 others to come check in at the "VIP" desk. well everything was smooth and nice until i get my bill after 3 days and see that not only was I charged 15.00, i was charged 15.00 A DAY for this "resort fee" crap. Well i marched immediately down to the front desk, where lo and behold, there was a little sign that stated the resort fee charges, then marched back over to the VIP desk where there was NO SUCH SIGN. and i was like, wait a minute, i was never even TOLD about these fees before you charged them how is that even okay??? i never saw the sign cause i didn't check in at the "regular" front desk, had i. Well that lady said, well priceline says that there may be "additional fees" by the hotel, and i was like... that's fine and dandy that they give you that disclaimer, the point being is that YOU NEVER DID. nope she didn't help me, so that's one place i will never stay again. The problem with refunding the money, they of course can't once you have booked it through third party.

Furthermore, every time i have stayed in vegas in the past 3 months, everywhere has charged that stupid fee. I was only mad that time cause i never knew about it. The front desk has always told me straight up front that i will be charged, which is absolutely crap, but what can you do. I guess they are like airlines now, trying to charge in extra ways to make up for their lost income.

Wow 24.99 is steep, i was mad about 15.00. That's too bad cause red rock is so beautiful, and it's not like they offer THAT deep discounts on their rooms. I stayed there once, but it was a business trip so I know nothing about the fees. My advice is you will have a resort fee everywhere, it just may be less and it's all for the crap that WHO REALLY USES on vacations! I mean I guess the hard core exerciser or the business man who sits in the hotel on the internet... but really? geez. if you can afford it though, id still choose red rock, cause as you mentioned it's one of your favorites, and id have to agree. the beds are heavenly!!! WHen I someday can afford a new bed I have to decide between buying the one from Red rock or the one from Mirage!! lol

Many hotels on Las Vegas, Orlando and many beach properties are charging resort fees. The fees are pretty much non-negotiable and will apply whether you book directly with the property or through an opaque site like Priceline/Hotwire.

I agree that $25 is the highest I encountered and would lead me to book elsewhere.

My trip next week will include a $3 resort fee.

I first encountered a $20+ resort fee when staying on Miami's South Beach. At least there you felt you were getting something for the money. $25 at the Red Rock is a ripoff for what you get. Make sure to take all the soap and little bottles of shampoo, that'll show 'em.
