Not a hassle to get to (no reason to ever have to use LV BLVD: easy access to north and south ends of the strip via I-15, via Frank Sinatra, via Paradise, ...) and park (unlike traditional Downtowns).

I head Downtown whenever there is an art/literature event. About 1-2 times a month.
You sound like the most fun of anyone on the board today. It always makes me laugh when people refuse to go somewhere because there's traffic. If it's worth going to, there's going to be traffic! I'd rather eat one time at a great restaurant than 10 times at Olive Garden, but that's just me.

I'm curious about your mentioning art/literature events. That's my interest other than music but I didn't know there was a lot of it LV. May I have some examples of places you go? I tell people I like to go to poetry readings and they send me to open mics in coffee shops. I used to live in Pittsburgh, which is a literary mecca, so I'm a bit spoiled. Is there an art gallery neighborhood comparable to Scottsdale, AZ?

Thanks for your adventurous spirit!

Have you been to First Friday? Google it if you haven't been yet. I just went for the first time and it was a lot of fun. There are some really talented people here.

Great way to look at it!

I posted a thread not too long ago regarding arts/culture in Las Vegas. Below is the link to that thread. Take a look at each of the links within the thread- they'll give you a nice idea of great events taking place.

Nobody goes to the Strip anymore...it's too crowded.

OK, somebody had to say that.

The only thing Fremont street has going for it is the food and table limits are lower. However, the reason is quite apparent when you compare the two.
Yep I agree with you. My wife and I were there a few weeks ago and the people there looked to be of a much lower class then on the other side of the strip. We both made that exact same comment to each other.

You can find good food and entertainment off strip on a regular basis. There are some very nice "local" casinos so that if you live here you can stay away from the strip. They offer the music, comedy, gambling, movie theaters, restaurants, etc...
Shows and other things can be a lot more expensive in Los Angeles. I think Las Vegas is a deal for the locals in food, entertainment and shopping.
There are some high end places that cost more, but I think the strip offers at the very least great entertainment worthy of patronizing at least every 4 weeks.

Go the the strip by side streets and enter the back end of where ever you want to go.

You are right about Las Vegas Blvd., want to run out of gas going 3 blocks in 45 minutes, then Las Vegas Blvd would be the place.

When I was a cab driver, I went to the Strip on a daily basis. I give a friend a ride to and from the Jockey Club a couple of days a week for his job as a security guard on the construction site. Other wise I only go when I have friends who want to see something there.

Before the mega resorts the hotels on the Strip were spread out with plenty of empty desert between them. But they were some of the classiest hotel/casinos in the world. Downtown Fremont Street was much brighter than it is now, especially when the Golden Nugget sign was the brightest thing in Nevada...probably the west. It seemed bigger than the casino. Someone took a photographic light meter down there and proved that the street was brighter at night than at high noon in July.

Anyway, my aunt and uncle from West Virginia came to visit and we took them all over, but downtown was first, and then the Strip. He took one look at those multi-million dollar hotels on the Strip and his comment: "It's not as bright out here is it?"
