I'm not a religious person in fact I consider myself an Atheist but anyplace where prostitutes walk the street is a little left of center in my opinion...

THEN of course outside the city limits in Nevada, prostitution is legal, maybe the title should be expanded to the entire state.

Prostitutes walk the streets??? Have you ever even BEEN to Vegas??? And even if they do occasionally walk down the streets, Vegas is the only place in the world where that happens, right???

I have actually been to Vegas and Reno AND seen women walking the streets...people reeling drunk on the side walks...pour what might have been their lifes savings into a slot machine...the label Sin City is fine with me...

AND as for other cities having similar problems, well that does not in any way mitigate what goes on in Vegas or other cities in Nevada...

I suspect the fact that the city was developed by organized crime figures ...figures in somehow.

Now if that were true where would the tourists stay?

Oh man, you're really taxing my memory here.....I wish I could remember which specific channel that documentary was on, but I DO know it was either the History Channel, Discovery Channel or Travel Channel. It has been on several times, and it was aired on a weekend, I remember that. It may be on again. I really enjoyed watching it.

I'll look for that Vegas documentary on the channels you mentioned. Thanks.

As for finding "sin" in Las Vegas, I'll reiterate...anything you can find happening in Las Vegas, or Reno, or Elko, or Ely, or Tonopah, or Pahrump, or Hawthorn, or Laughlin, or Wells, or Winnemucca, or Caliente, or even Pioche, you can find happening to some degree in any city or town or village in the world. Yes, I said the world. They don't call prostitution the oldest profession in the world for nothing, and don't they take on gamblers somewhere in the bible? Does that justify unethical behavior? No. But morals are thought up by people who don't understand ethics. I learned that from one whom I consider pretty smart, who went on to define ethics as, "reason and the contemplation of optimum survival."

It's all right to be good...even moral, if you will...but show me someone who attempts to look pious while pointing out other people's low morals and I'll show you an unethical hypocrite.

Lisa, you are absolutely correct. I've been all over this country and have seen more "sin" in several other cities and towns than you'd ever find in Vegas. In fact most of it would make us here in Las Vegas blush. Everyday I spent in New York at a convention I was accosted by dozens of hookers. I have never been approached by a hooker in Las Vegas in 43 years. In New Orleans you are liable to not only be accosted by hookers all over town, but they might also cut your throat for a dollar. West Virginia, where I come from originally, is a typical eastern state. Like most eastern states it is so uptight, to hear the locals talk, that every human desire has been outlawed. But I knew of ***** houses in nearly every town, and there was so much gambling going on in back rooms of pool halls that I know of two or three buddies that paid their way through college playing poker, and have a couple of uncles who made livings in the illegal gambling business. And West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, etc., etc., are all small potatoes when it comes to gambling compared to the large eastern cities like New York where there is more illegal gambling going on than there is legal gambling here. People come to Las Vegas to let their hair down and have a good time where it is safe and legal to do so. That's the idea of a resort. "Sin City" and "What happens in Vegas, etc.", are meant as tongue in cheek slogans. Anyone who is so literal in their thinking that they can't see that is just someone to be ignored as having fixed ideas about everything in life, and they are nothing but stick in the mud hypocrites. I pity them. I doubt they will ever be happy or liked very much by others.

I prefer to think of us as a "City without sin.....because we legalized all of it" Anyway the Las Vegas Motto should be "Keep Las Vegas Green.....Bring money"

Anyone that doesnt appreciate our city and the way we do things should, perhaps, vacation in Orlando.
