So with the opening of all these newer places including CityCenter,Encore,Palazoo and the botched Fountainebleau project, they all seem to be on the upscale type. Will there ever bee an affordable "regular" type of place being built along the strip?LV is or was kind of known as a reasonable price vacation town to the outsiders and tourists but now it looks like it's going all upscale(which I don't like myself)

>Thoughts and ideas?

Yeah it's stupid expensive... most of the places seem to be charging $5 or more for a bottle of domestic beer. (I don't live there just observed this the 2 times I have been)

In Kansas City there is usually a special any night of the week where you can get beer for $2 or better....

You can always seek the plentiful off strip and downtown bargains if you choose to do so.

Yes but is it Vegas? Who the he** would want to go to Kansas City? I can get a six pack for less than $5.00 here in Las Vegas too, but you can't find better vacation deals anywhere than here. Never could, never will. Don't worry about the new high end resorts. You will always have plenty of other choices here. After all, we have more hotel rooms than any other city, and I'm sure more existing hotels. What do you think they're going to do, tear everything else down and just have CityCenter? We have more entertainment than anybody else too, and more to do in the surrounding area. You don't have to stay at CityCenter...it's just one more option in a city of hundreds of options. But feel free to vent...I'm sure you don't know where to find regularly priced beer when you come here, but we do.

Well of course I wouldn't do that.(Stay at CityCenter)
But I'm saying when the older places on the strip close down like Circus Circus,Trop,or MGM will they be replaced with these new expensive Mega Resorts?Even if there is a chance of this happening I know it might be awhile but the one thing lots of people love about LV is it's affordability when comparing it to other Vacation Cities. That's the problem I think that is going on along the Blvd.I'm starting to feel like there are two parts of the LV Strip;the Southern portion for people with families on a tight budget,$6.99 all you can eats, dollar beers and rooms at a reasonable rate. Then the Northern portion of the Strip will become Louis Vuttioned out, high end luxury vehicles and museums with expensive paintings and rooms/suits that cost hundreds of dollars a night. That's how it seems north of Casino Royal with the exception of TI,Circus Circus,Sahara and Riviera.Don't get me wrong,CityCenter is one of my favorite concepts of any type of building in terms of space and attractions but it's going to attract a different crowd, that's all.

Default great places are still affordable

Every new resort is going to cost more than the one it replaces. This is what makes the strip so great. The Bellagio, Wynn, Encore, etc. You do not need to stay at these hotels but it is nice to go look at them. When the economy recovers and the older strip hotels are torn down I am sure whatever is built there will try to one up the current luxury hotels.

Affordable lodging can be found just off the strip. Moderator cut: 10 post minimum

We are talking about The Strip. With what the real estate goes for (it's like Boardwalk on the Monopoly board)...they aren't about to build something mediocre and affordable to the small time player. Today's Strip is all about lavishness and outrageousness. And the more the better in a developer's mind. If someone wants to build some kind of Days Inn hotel and casino...they would do that off The Strip.

Vegas forgets it was built form middle income families coming to Vegas, now it's catering to the ultra rich from other countries, and some of the ultra rich in the US.

It's funny when the news reports on CC they will say it's beautiful and locals even though it may be out of your price range come down and take a look. Hopefully there is enough rich folks that spend the money at CCto to keep it's doors open.

When Bugsy Siegel built The Flamingo on The Strip...it was built for the ultra-rich of that time and was considered quite lavish. Now it's looked upon as The Grand Dame of The Strip...worn, old-fashioned and blah. Today's Wynn was yesterday's Flamingo....and so on.
