Just a little town not far from Las Vegas. I've never been there.

On google maps, it looks small. Just some residential housing, and I don't think any businesses.

It seems only a few miles away from the outskirts of the fringes of Las Vegas though.

Is the land between the edges of Vegas and Blue Daimond protected from development? Do people in Blue Daimond have views of Vegas..or is it not setup in a location with views like that?

WHat's the future of Blue Diamond? Always a small little town?

Just curious about it...

I love Blue Diamond, it has a park, elementary school, small store, a bike shop, a small church, post office and it is definitely a rural community but that could change someday. A developer wants to build homes on a huge tract of land directly across from it so the "rural" atmosphere of Blue Diamond will be gone someday if this HUGE development pushes through. SAD!!!!!!

No views AFAIK. The mountains are in the way. Most of the land between Blue Diamond and the west side of Summerlin is a part fed land or state land. The city was built to house employees of a mining company. You had to work for them to live there. The houses in Blue Diamond are very expensive for what you get compared to even Summerlin.

I've been trying for a long time to find an old story that I remember reading about how it got it's name. The historians up in Carson City now say it got it's name from the company that owned the mine; but I remember a story about how a guy was crossing the creek there in a horse drawn buggy, and he spotted what he thought was blue diamond mud. They said he went back to San Francisco to try to get investors to mine the diamonds that he presumed would be there, but then he could never find the exact spot again. I don't know if that was just legend, or true, but I always thought the mining company got it's name from Blue Diamond, and not the other way around.

Blue Diamond is simply an area on the SouthWest "skirt" of Las Vegas. You are still in Las Vegas; just like Summerlin is within the city limits. Suburbs I guess? For this city anyway.
