Being from Michigan, I have to say that it's not just the snow, or just the mountains, but a combination of the two. If there is a way to alleviate one or both of those conditions, I would call it smart to do so. Believe me, we from Michigan are very much used to driving in snow. What we are NOT used to is the mountains. First time I ever drove through Colorado was middle of summer and that drive was still stressful! As I previously said, the one time I drove I-70 in winter was an absolute nightmare through the pass. What needs to be remembered here is that not everyone is used to (or even knows how in the first place) drving in the mountains.

True. I didn't take that into consideration about MI. TN is very hilly.. I guess that's why some call folks from TN Hillbilly's... LOL

Is it safe to drive through tornado alley to Las Vegas in late May?
How should we prepare?

The best way to prep for your drive is to stop resurrecting TEN YEAR OLD THREADS.

PS Also, for "tornado alley" (sheesh, GMAB) try the correct CD Forums in OK, NE and KS.
