Hello All,

I'm currently a high school teacher in California, and looking to leave this state after the 2009-2010 school year. Being our neighbor, I'm sure you are aware that California is a failed state and perpetually bankrupt.

I was wondering if anyone would mind answering some of my questions. Just to provide some brief background, I have taught in public, private, and parochial schools in both affluent and inner city communities. I don't mind teaching anywhere. Therefore, any assistance you'd be able to provide would be most appreciated.

1. Are there more schools opening or closing in Clark County? (In CA, we are actually CLOSING schools - and many of them - if you can believe it.)

2. What is your opinion about the overall quality of education offered at junior high and high schools in Clark County?

3. Do you have to speak Spanish in order to get a teaching job in Las Vegas? (You do in California - believe me.)

4. Is there any other information about Clark County schools that you'd be willing to share?

Thank you

1. CCSD has over 300 schools. This year for the first time, enrollment was under the projections. I'm sure some new ones will be opening next year.

2. Middle and high schools in CCSD tend to have large class sizes. Students are very diverse. Overall it could be improved but it's okay.

3. No but it wouldn't hurt.

4. CCSD has had to belt tighten in the past couple of years. It's very much a good old boy/girl network. It's who you know. Schools vary greatly, so having a good building level administration is critical. Hiring has slowed greatly in the last year.
