Got mine today. Just to save everyone the trouble...

If you plan on working in LV you'll need both a TAM card and a health card and possibly a sheriff's card.

To get your TAM card go to http://www.NevadaDrinkCard.com you can do the course online. Or you can do the course in a classroom by walk-in at Sahara & Rainbow. You need this card if you work anywhere they serve liquor (even if serving liquor is not your job). The card is valid for 4 years. Just get one it's safe to have it for any job.

To get your Health Card you have to go to the Health Dept. office. They give you a hep A shot and make you watch a gosh aweful boring movie about food safety. The card is valid for 3 years. You can find the walk in schedule at http://www.southernevadaheathdistrict.org

As for the sheriff card, you can NOT get this voluntarily before you get employed. You have to wait until AFTER you get hired and your employer will give you a referral slip and tell you who to see at the police station.

First of all you don't need any of those to work in Las Vegas.

It's only if you plan to serve drinks that you need the TAM card, and only if you plan to serve food or drinks that you need a health card. If you plan to work in a casino (or sell certain things, if I remember right, like cars for instance) you'll need the Sheriff's card.

You really don't need, nor can you get, most of those until you have been officially hired by someone.

If you are a Nevada resident, and unemployed, you can go to Nevada's JobConnect (no space intended) and get vouchers for the cards you need. The CEP program will pay for them. You'll need a CEP form letter filled out by your new employer before you get the vouchers. You'll get the form letter at JobConnect. Take your SS Card and NV DL or NV ID when you go in. Don't forget the fingerprinting that you'll need for the Sheriff's card either. They'll pay for that too.
