This is not my usual forum but I know I can count on city data folks to give me good info.
We are attending a wedding and will be in town for only three days. The bride and groom are staying at the Strat. I'm kind of thinking that I dont want to spend more than a buck and a half a night for a room and we are considering these options.
1. The Stratosphere. Simply because thats where the bride and groom are. It would be my third choice.
2. The Golden Nugget seems like a cool deal being that you can walk out of and into The Freemont St, Experience and that is likely where we will end up anyway one of our nights there and is close to the Strat.
3. Treasure Island. The Strip. Nuff said. My first choice.

These are the three i'm considering given our self imposed $150 a night deal. I would certainly go over that a little if given an alternative that I agree with and may have overlooked.
Your thoughts are welcome.
Thanks
Willy

FYI, GN isn't really all that close to Strat. Whether you stay at GN or TI, you're driving to get to Strat no matter what. If you're going to be taking a cab, then GN is a little closer (GN = 2mi to Strat, TI = 3mi to Strat), but that shouldn't really factor in your decision very much.

If this is your first trip here, then I'd suggest staying on the strip. I like Fremont St a lot, but the real "experience" - especially for first timers - is the strip.

Most of the hotels are giving pretty deep discounts on their rooms. You should be able to get a nice room at most places for $150.

BTW, if you or your friend are poker players, the Strat tournaments are fairly easy to beat. Lots of European tourists taking advantage of the weak dollar and literally throwing their money away, and there's usually a few people playing their first live game (outside home games). Pretty soft. If you're a cash game player, Excalibur is really soft.

Have fun, and congrats to your friend.

if you are going to stay on the strip, check out the deals.. to me, the ti is a nice hotel, nothing really special.. see if you can get a deal at the wynn, venetion, or a mirage suite. the strat was comparable to a holiday inn however, maybe you can snag a suite there. but out of all of them, the GN is the way to go and your friends will want to be in the shark pool without a doubt.. travel channel rated it in the top 25

I gambled and lost.
I ended up trying Priceline and wasnt having luck there and had to put my my bid up to to $122 on four star hotel on the strip. I ended up with the Luxor which is not considered a four star hotel by anyones standards that I know. Oh well, at least it is convenient and is not the Strat.
Thanks for everyones input.

Anyone who bids for hotels on Priceline should at least read through the hotel list for their destination city on BiddingForTravel.com. You could have avoided this unpleasant surprise if you had done that.
