I live in Green Valley in the Emerald valley subdivison. I am in the heart of Henderson off Warm Springs and Strephanie. My house was built in 1997. The area is very nice and I am literally minutes to everything. I found Summerlin was too far from everything. I like where I am, not too far from Lake Mead or the District and literally 4 minutes from the galleria and Walmart.

Las Vegas isn't any more unsafe than any other larger city. Don't put yourself into bad situations and most likely you will be fine. I've live in Henderson and Las Vegas for 20 years now and only once I had a car broken into, but that was while it was at a garage getting serviced. I've never had any personal incidents where I felt remotely unsafe.

There are many nice areas and if you're coming from so-cal you can probably afford them (i don't know if you own or rent in socal).

Right now with housing prices so cheap, I would say Las Vegas is probably one of the lowest cost of living areas in the country. The biggest thing is if you can get a good job, which you guys would already have that covered. Family in socal is easy to get to from Vegas, you can be in orange county in 4 hours and you'd be driving the opposite direction of traffic (we visit socal a lot). Flights in and out of Vegas are numerous and usually cheaper than I've seen from other cities (perhaps not much diff from LAX).

I do love so-cal and would move there in a second if the cost of living wasn't so outrageous. Moving to Vegas, the thing I would most be concerned about missing in socal is the weather, definitely not an issue of crime.

Looks like you are going through all the negative posts. I don't think you even read this thread.

Tons of positives in this thread...and tons more throughout the forums. The negative ones are the unusual ones...and it seems that not only do you ONLY open up the negatives threads...you don't even read the threads that you open either...lol

To me it doesn't seem like Summerlin is too far from things. I personally don't care about Lake Mead, and there are plenty of dining and shopping options on this side of town too. I like Green Valley, and living there will put you a little bit closer to a mall, but what I really love about the Summerlin area is the unbeatable location next to gorgeous Red Rock Canyon. I never tire of seeing those beautiful red mountains in the background.
