This will help you look at crime stats for the area:

CrimeView Community Incident Map : Las Vegas Metro Police Department

I looked at the last couple of weeks and nothing stood out to me.

I used to work (relatively) near there and went to the hospital often when I was pregnant (one of my doc's offices is at Spring Valley Hospital) and driving through, it didn't seem scary to me at all.

It sort of borders good (Spanish Trail) and not so good (lots of lower income apartments and trailer parks close by). Its ok overall, but the better areas are to the south and west of there and it gets worse east and north.

If you equate "good area" with "safe area," you should be fine. I live just south of there, near the aforementioned Spring Valley Hospital, and like the area a lot.

If you equate "good area" with "convenient to many things," you'll love it. It's five minutes to the 215 beltway, five to 10 to the south strip (depending on traffic), with lots of shopping and other retail nearby.
