Great that you have secured employment without the need of unemployment check!!! Congrats!!! You must have a lot of money!!

But in regards to employment; you did say were out of work for 6 months!!!!! Most people can't survive that long without a job.

so how is your job in California, since you moved there?

Congrats on the new gig, DM3. I stay in contact with a former girlfriend who is a mortgage broker in the central coast area of Cali. I know things have been horrible for her. She's taking side work processing loans to make ends meet. It's difficult out there. In any event, best of luck in your new venture!

My job in California is great! Things are picking up in the bay area. It is nice to see my electricity bill at 22.00 a month. Granted there is not a day I miss Vegas. But I had no other choice. I was not going to sit around waiting for a gig when I knew that Vegas was going under.

My neighbors from Vegas tell me that I made a great decision. Most of them are making plans to relocate somewhere else other than Nevada. There are running out of money. Have NO luck finding employment. It is sad when your college degree means nothing.

I am glad to see your doing well. Maybe sometime in the future you can come back here.

Thanks buddy!!! Another thing I forget to mention is that Vegas has the best FOOD around. I"ll give my right foot for a good buffet in the bay area. OH, there are no buffets in San Francisco.

Thanks for the well wishes tony. Although I did like doing mortgages, I simply wasn't cut out for it (perhaps too honest?). I won't get into too many details on the new gig, but I will say that even if I was making more money doing mortgages I would take the new job over it in a heartbeat. I certainly hope things pick up for your friend as well.

I am 62 and moved back to Las Vegas a year ago from Colorado. I could not find work in Colorado either. I only lived in there for 1 1/2 years and I lived in Las Vegas before leaving. Granted I should have never left but my job in the hotel industry disappeared anyway so it did not make a difference I am so tired of being turned away by every major hotel in this city. I worked in the industry for 15 years Sometimes I think it is my age and sometimes I think it is my credit which is bad by now. Sometimes I think it is all the temporary jobs I had over in Colorado. Tired of trying in Las Vegas. See no hope.

I understand how you feel. I am thinking about leaving as well. I am working on my bachelor degree so I really want to stay and finish it but there are just no jobs here and it is so disheartening and depressing. Thinking about Arizona.

I've lived here for about 5-6 years, graduated locally from Eldorado High and right now attend UNLV. I recently quit my last job and am frankly looking for a job anywhere.

I'm 20 turning 21 soon so I'm in that awkward phase where I can't claim to be 21 so many casino jobs are hard to get into.

Ideally, I'd like an entry position into a casino or resort and clerical/professional business 2nd as I have 3+ years in that environment.

If you know your employer is hiring, feel free to post a referral but in any case, your 2 cents would be appreciated.

I just wanna realistically see expectations and plan accordingly for the next month(s).

sorry to hear about your situation.

in your situation, I would just take a mall job or grocery job to pay the bills until you find something.

You can take out student loans too, but don't go overboard with those.

Long term, I would look into the medical field (medical assistant, nursing) or state jobs (teaching, cop) to grab something.

You are still young, so search for some mentors that can help with your career progression.

Things will pick up for you. When I was 20, and going to school, I was making 5/hr and had 100 bucks in the bank and was happy as hell, because I was getting a great education and was confident it would pay off.

bottom line is build up your skills, and save what you can. Because if Vegas is not hiring, then consider a move to LA or wherever the jobs are.

good luck.
