Actually I was responding to everyone just to clarify my original question. I'd just like to get a ball park figure on tarring a roof. Mine has a coating that I assume is tar, although I know there are other substances they coat them with. Some reflect heat too but they are usually white. I haven't been up there for about five years, but I remember it's a pretty thick coating of something sort of spongy. It may last forever for all I know. The patio roof tilts and water runs off of it when it rains like Niagra Falls. I looked at it today and saw a chunk of stucco had fallen off one corner, and the paint along the edge is discolored, obviously from water damage. It's probably getting under the flashing on the top along the edge where the water drains off. It may only need to have some of that black whats-a-name blended in between the roof and the flasing. I hope to he** it's not mold.

You might have a sprayed polyurethane foam roof.

That's what I need to know. I hope a local roofer doesn't cost more than that, although that's a lot of money. But I've been afraid it would be a whole lot more.

Thanks for the info.

Ah, ha. I just remembered the manual the builder gave us. Here is what my roof is made of:
Polyglass USA - Company that produces modified waterproofing membranes (http://www2.polyglass.com/jsps/linee_b.jsp?profile=all&cat=C&node=ECOM00002920 - broken link)

And the manual says it may need a minimum amount of preventive maintenance annually; roof mastic may be required around all roof penetrations; flat roof may require additional tarring around scuppers and/or any metal flashing. Hmmmmmmmm. Just what I thot.

Contact Cedar Roofing for extended warranty. Uh, oh. Hope that's not too late.
