Thanks for mentioning that!
No problem, Downtown is continually improving and the lighting they have over there are so bright. I have met a property owner who owns 7 historic cottages in front of Campaige Place, a stylish building Downtown. The owner of these cottages rent each for around 800.00 dollars. He cleaned up the area and spent money on these historic cottages. I admire people like him who've invested time and money improving Downtown Las Vegas. Many businesses Downtown have cleaned up their areas as well, it is definitely going in the right direction. I will post photos of these cottages on my site soon. As far as Mayor Goodman, I may not agree with everything he does but I definitely like what he is doing in Downtown Vegas.

What a joke, its not a good area but far from being the most unsafe around. Go a mile or two north or northeast and then you'll see the most unsafe areas around. The Fremont East area is Beverly Hills compared to the ghetto around Washington.

You're aware the lofts he is referring to are near Maryland and as such area constantly walked past, 24 hours a day, by druggies and prostitutes, correct?

I'd wager that 50 drug users and prostitutes(and we are talking hard core nasty looking crack ho's here) walk or bike within 10 feet of those lofts every single day.

Quite untrue. Very close to the most dangerous area in Las Vegas. Twice as high a crime as a mile or so north. Crime in this city is drug driven...not ethnic.

Davie, Fremont has always been skid row as long as I can remember. Buzz, I always wonderd how the Showboat lasted as long as it did in its location. I nice local casino in a bad section of town.

but its a good area if you want to be close to "lowend" hookers n street drugs.

have never figured out how I can drive down a street and count hookers n dealers but the "long arm of the law" can't find their axe with both hands in their back pockets.

You are right Buzz, I have only visited, and I am well aware that Las Vegas is different and more colorful then most other major US cities. I was simply stating an opinion is all

I think the reasons older neighborhoods all over the US have gone to sheet is because the American standard of living has dramatically increased over the past decades. Most newer developments I have seen in many places (in many states, not just NV or FL) are all large McMansion sized homes over 3000+ sq ft.

The people who can afford will buy into these newer bigger homes while the ones who cant stay put, and the old neighborhood goes to sheet and the new one flourishes

Would you agree with that Buzz?

Ps when I was in Vegas last month I saw Lake Mead Blvd in North LV, along with West Bonanza between LV Blvd and Rancho, among other areas north of Downtown I was shocked that some neighborhoods in LV were so bad.

Jeebus, there's a name from the past. The Showboat was a common breakfast destination when I was growing up. When did they finally fold?

In 2004. One of the original owners bought it back from Harrah's and changed the name to Castaways then it went into bankruptcy a couple of times before finally throwing in the towel and closed for good.

That makes me feel nostalgic. When I mentioned that the Showboat was a common destination for breakfast I should have added "for my family". I lived not terribly far from there (in the 89121 zip code) when I was growing up. At the time it was a blue collar, middle class neighborhood, but it has not fared well over the years.
