Hey, MomMom !

My point was what Methodist/Baptist (Orlando) presence
or Mormon (Las Vegas) presenceis not a reason to relocate from Orlando to LV
-
I like Mormons - we live not far (10 min driving) from Mormon Temple here .. mmm... and 7 min from National Cathedral

What an interesting thread! Just read through all the pages.I'm learning more and more about Las Vegas each day! Lastyear we rode a bus down E Fremont St, and I remember allthe interesting old motel signs down there. I did'nt realiseit was dangerous, I remember a girl getting off the bus witha baby and pram, just seemed ordinary to me. As for mormons, they turn up at my house every few years to talk about theirfaith. They're always very young americans, and the nicestpeople you could meet.

I will be honest with you. I love LV and would love to retire there. Like you, I thought that everything in that city revolved around Las Vegas Blvd. But once you get to know people that actually live there, they almost will universally tell you that they do NOT want to be anywhere near the strip nor live around it. Unless they work there, most of the locals try to avoid the thing like a disease. There is a whole company called STATION that has made a fortune building hotels, arenas, casinos, clubs and bowling alleys OFF the strip for locals that live there and do not want to deal with the 24/7 madness and chaos that is LV Blvd. They changed my view and I got to know parts of the city like Summerlin and Henderson that are GREAT places to live. And transportation is not an issue there.

I enjoyed my time living in downtown las vegas. There are some great neighborhoods there and the feeling that you are in on a secret that nobody else gets. There were also many challenges, especially the day to day problems of dealing with noise and crime. For some people, the excitement of being in the middle of all the action close to the hip nightlife and arts scene, the vintage architecture etc outweighs the negatives. It's also uplifting knowing that you are making a difference in improving an area simply by living there and taking care of it.

Even I was a little shocked to see the Urban lofts going up near Eastern and Fremont. The original phase near Maryland and Fremont is by far the ideal location. But don't let these curmudgeons on this board discourage you from wanting to live downtown. There are many benefits that they don't value, but for others are more important.

YOu are missing it a little David. There is downtown (The Fremont Street Experience) and there is downtown where one lives in a 50s/60s home. They have vastly different characteristics.

The downtown to live is gentrifying a bit and is pretty nice if you are urban and willing to put up with certain urban drawbacks...but it is not surburbia...
