( one of their Guard gated communities) This happened relatively recently. The crime stats are one resource to check, but please do not let that be your ONLY deciding factor. Find things of interest to you and resources you depend on and go from there.

The one great thing about Vegas is people get very defensive about what area they live (they love where they live!)..and of course you will find that all types of people live in all types of places Notice not everyone LOVES the NW or GV???....One socioeconomic class DOES NOT live in one area - Younger folks DO NOT live in one area...and Gangs DO NOT concentrate in one area Find a place that works for you and is convenient to the things you enjoy - go from there. Come out and pick a place that "feels right" for YOU!
Neighborhoods do have particular parameters. Crime is one. The relatively crime in Las Vegas varies at least 100 to 1. Likewise gangs are not evenly distributed. And young people have areas of preference.

There is more to it than the crime rate I agree. And some people don't like Summerlin or GV...I would not choose to live in either. But there are areas suited for young families and there are areas which are not. Just a fact of life.
