I know this thread is old, but reading through it was fascinating to me! When I first moved to Vegas, the walled yards were really hard for me to get used to. I guess I really didn't understand all the positives that were mentioned. I just felt closed in and shut off, but I guess coming from an area where we have big lots and open spaces and no one fences their yard, it was a shock! I live in a rural area and many have underground fencing for their dog so one doesn't HAVE to put up a fence! All you see are acres of grass behind people's homes.

But now that we are moving back to Vegas again, it was nice to read through this thread and I can appreciate the positives.

The walls are found all over the west, not just in Las Vegas. When I go east I feel like there's no privacy, and it makes owning a dog very difficult. I sure wouldn't tie my dogs to a tree. In WV I did have to tie mine to a clothes line which gave him a little more freedom to move about, but I felt sorry for him, and guilty about having to do that. On the other hand it's sort of quaint and homey to see people's vegetable gardens in front of their house. And I kind of miss being a kid and not having to worry about cutting across someone's property to get to the next street over. But when Hell freezes over and you see me moving back east, I'll put up a wall wherever I land.
