I'll be flying in from the East Coast. I haven't been to LV in four years. Can I get any recs on good delis or fun stuff near the hotel? I like to walk, and will be ready to get some fresh air. What's good inside the PS?
Anything I should look out for? They let me park my car for 17 days there about 12 years ago. I did stay one night then, too. Seemed friendly at the time. Is it still easy to find the airport shuttle at Mccarran?

yes, I was aware that the PS is where OJ won free room and board in Lovelock, while he was shopping for some sports memorabilia that belonged to Mr. Goldman.

If walking is your thing, you picked the wrong hotel. You'll want to drive/take a cab from the hotel to either the strip or downtown, if you want to walk around. Most of what's around Palace Station is rather uninteresting, and depending on which direction you walk, it can get pretty dicey.

If you're only here for one night, you can maximize your time at the hotel. Several days in Las Vegas would obviously give you many more options.

Food recommendations: Try the Oyster Bar, it's probably the best thing about the place. The seafood dishes are quite good & will run about $20. I've eaten there twice & was very pleasantly surprised both times. The wait is sometimes a dozen people deep at 11 PM, 2 AM, 5 AM, you name it. They're doing something right.

If you'd prefer to gamble & explore, then eat in the wee hours (midnight to 6 AM), try the Grand Cafe for their late night specials. While the food's not as awesome as the Oyster Bar, the deals are phenomenal. Be sure you get a players' card while the rewards center is open, you'll need it to get the specials. Las Vegas Cafes - Casual Dining at the Grand Cafe - Open 24 Hours Some examples: a MASSIVE short stack of pancakes (good ones, too) for 99 cents. Yes, 99 cents. Biscuits & gravy for 99 cents. 1/4 lb Hamburger & fries for $1.99. 2 eggs, hash browns & toast for $1.99. Steak, eggs, hash brown & toast for $5.99. Chicken fried steak (large), 2 eggs, hash browns & toast for $4.99. I often go there at 4-5 AM after a poker session - our tip is often almost as much as the meal.

For gambling, they offer low-limit craps. Also low-limit poker in a small room. Probably your best bet if you want to gamble on the cheap is 5 cent video poker - they have machines that pay over 100% if you're well-versed in the proper strategy (if not, well, that's how they make money on those machines). The machines are marked as over 100% payback for Optimum Play - most people play nowhere near Optimum. Deuces Wild is the best game on that machine & pays back 100.76% theoretically over time if you play it perfectly.

If you want to walk the area, I don't know what to suggest - most of what I'd recommend on Sahara is on the other side of I-15 & I wouldn't recommend walking there ...

Sounds great, thanks! I think every casino should at least have a few cheap eats. I've been to Reno/Tahoe 50 times without ever eating at McDonalds.......I will join the club, too.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Palace Station. In terms off off-strip casinos, PS is a bit on the lower-end of the spectrum, and if you want to stay in a locals casino, there are better options that have emerged over the years. Their Oyster Bar is really good, but the casino is just too smokey and it's not located in too safe of an area. There is not much near the hotel that I would recommend making a trek to.

We went to check it out for the first time the other day. I wouldn't recommend it.

But here is why I chose it:
12.99 for a room
free airport shuttle
free wi-fi (included in 14.99 resort fee)
I stayed their years ago and it was ok.
screaming good diner deals
I can easily use the RTC to get to SSTT to go to Laughlin the next day

So if you know of a better place that offers most of this, please speak up.

Sad because it used to be quite a decent off strip place.
