It needs power because it is an amplified antenna. I don't know why they don't feel that is important to list as for some people that's important if they manage a very low "E" home like I do but thankfully the wattage it pulls is minuscule. Power is ran to it via Coax and a plug with a coax connection on it making it weather and location friendly (it can still be plugged in inside).

Example, if your house has two coax mains leading in like a lot of new homes (new as in the last 10 or so years I guess), you an use one of the mains to send signal and the other to pull power from the inside end of it. Or, if you only have one coax main going into the house...and let's say the antenna is installed on the roof, run coax for the power through a mesh port leading to the attic/crawl-space and plug it in up there. These are just two examples of many possibilities in case you don't want to plug it in from outside (maybe fear that one of your kids may unplug it by accident or something). You are only limited by your imagination.

It is mentioned throughout the reviews at least so anyone reading those can at least know what to expect in terms of in-the-box. I even saw one where someone claimed they removed the little amplifier and ran it dry...I can't say anything about that as I don't see how that will improve anything since amplifiers simply boost the signal you are getting. The only way removing it (that I can think of) can benefit you is if you live right next door to the broadcast tower and the amplifier is causing the signal to be too noisy. Who know ^^

It is still the best antenna I have used so far in the past so many months and have even installed additional ones with other family members and one friend. Of all of us, only one person had an issue with the local PBS station (which was odd). I simply raised it a little (about a foot) and there it was....she must have a bunch of lead in her roof lol. The avg number of channels between all houses is 69-72 and it's tough as heck to get that here....so two thumbs up!

Default Too close to transmitters?

I just got an indoor antenna, and I live very close to Black Mountain. I can see the towers for FOX, NBC, and a couple others clear as day from my house, and I get those fine. ABC and CBS, are on the same line, just further away, but still very close. I don't pick up any signal from either. Is it possible I live too close to the mountain, and the signal is just going straight over?

That is very possible. I had a lot of issues when I lived in Henderson way back when. Both cellular and TV. I'd try the omni-directional one I mentioned. Since it doesn't have to rely on which direction it is pointed in. Just install it outside somewhere. I have had very little positive experience with the indoor ones when it comes to maximizing the channels you get. Then again..since I finally found one that worked so well, I stopped ordering new antennas to try out so my review is kind of frozen onto that one heh.

While you are having good reception with the antenna you are using. That antenna is still a bad choice to recommend for the LV market. As MediocreButArrogant has already posted. You will need a antenna that can handle the reception of low VHF signals if your interested in channel three and its sub channels. Just about any indoor rabbit ear antenna with telescopic rods that extend full over 40" should work well through out the valley.

Yes, but before I used that one I was ordering one right after the other via amazon. Took me forever before I found that one and it had such a significant improvement I have since installed many of these same one throughout LV for friends and family. All being in Summerlin, SW (Blue Diamond) area and 2 in Henderson (one being behind Fiesta Casino so it's right by the mountain as well. All locations (as long as the antenna has an open view either directly at a window or outside....they all get in channel 3+ all the others). The only one lacking channels was the one in Summerlin which lacked a few of the oddball international channels so they got 68 channels vs 72-73 the rest of us get.

They too tried a lot of options which is why I wound up recommending that one. In the end, it couldn't hurt to try it. Amazon does allow you to return the product (and they give you a shipping label) if it doesn't meet your needs. Best part of Amazon vs it's competitors ^_^

I recently bought the antenna you use, but picked up less stations than I was already getting. Can't seem to dial in 21.1 with either system. I was quite happy with my 40+ stations until I read how many you picked up.

Did you use the plug adapter to make sure it was amplified? What area of town?

Sure did
Henderson-Anthem area
I can see the mountain top antennas from my driveway
There are actually two sets of antennas on Black mountain that I am aware of. One set is further North that should be able to be seen from the Fiesta casino. The other set that I can see from Anthem is further South on the West side of the mountain. Maybe only one set are for TV stations?
