For that matter, what in general might someone relocating to Vegas/Henderson be surprised about when they get there? I like to be prepared for everything!
My family lives in Vegas and I'm just leaving there now from a visit,
The prices here are higher than most places due to the fact that almost nothing is grown near here and everything must be shipped in.
Things are about are 10 to 20% higher on average than they are where I live in Indiana. Some things are more.

And since the wages here aren't higher to compensate and the sales tax is high, unless you are doing well, you'll really feel the pinch.

It's hard to say since it is an individual experience.

I found that Vegas is more expensive for most things other than clothes, but I was coming from Tucson, Arizona.

Clothes, shoes & accessories are less expensive here if you shop the outlets and use the coupons that the outlet centers publish. If you are a bargain hunter, this place is Mecca. It is one of the best things I love about Vegas. For example, the Coach outlet has been putting out 20% off coupons and if you shop their clearancef, you can get some screamin' deals. I got a huge leather tote for $129! I have gotten my kids Stride Rite shoes for less than $15!

Now on other things according to some internet research and info from some local posts, I was told costs were somewhat equivalent. It isn't.
YMCA swim lessons, $45/per session (8 classes) per child in Tucson, $90/per session per child in Vegas. Dance & sports programs are also more expensive here.
Haircuts are about the same.
Microdermabrasion and most spa treatments are more.
Car insurance is about $30/ month more in Vegas.
Gas is about 10-15 cents per gallon more in Vegas.
Groceries are more here, plus none of the stores double coupons.
Movies are about 75 cents to $1 more.

Phoenix is more expensive than Tucson, so you can't generalize that Arizona is cheaper than Vegas either.

Now, if I compare Vegas to say WMass (Greater Springfield area) than costs are equivalent and some things in Vegas are cheaper.
