Not sure why they are a minority group. Who labels them that? Judaism seems to have a rather large following. So, are Protestants a minority group? Buddhists?

Whatever. Just seems "off" to me. Maybe I should go visit the Religious Forum and get better educated.

Carry on...

A minority is a group with significantly fewer members than the majority.

Duh.

Jew is a number of things...certainly including an ethnic piece. Actually two primary ethnic pieces. Judaism is the religious sect. See...

Wow...you don't have to be so rude. It was an honest question and I thank Olecapt for clearing it up for me. You could have been done the same.

It still baffles me as to why a religious group would be considered ethnic as opposed to religous. Are Roman Catholics an ethnic group? And if you convert to Judaism, how does that work into that? I know I can't convert to African American or Chinese...but I guess I can adopt their practices or culture. Interesting to me, is all.

With all due respect, and not meaning to be rude, if you are still asking those questions, then Olecapt didn't clear it up for you. If you are truly interested in this subject, you may want to research it further. The Wikepedia article that Olecapt linked to is a good start.

My SO is Jewish but not Orthodox.

LV is in the big scheme of things, new. There isn't any real Jewish area. Everyone lives together. It's a mish mosh of religions and ethnicity. Where you live is related to economics more than anything else.

There is a Chabad over by the shopping center (Marche Baccus and Garfields) ...right on the corner across from Diamond Bay They are a strongly orthodox group and walk to services on the sabbath. Tend to very conservative in attire.

I don't think they look remotely Amish...but who knows what others think .

There is another orthodox synagogue out in the Willows where they also walk to services.
