I have lived here since 1994. I am from Los Angeles and prior to my move to Las Vegas, I lived in Palm Springs, California. I relocated for my job. My wife gave birth to our daughter in Las Vegas, so this is home for her. I live in green Valley and like it, I rarely gamble and am not a "partier". I notice home get togethers are rarely done here and everyone wants to meet at a casino. I had true friends in Palm Springs and more home get togethers there. You cant live here like a tourist or you will wind up broke or an alcoholic.

We actually moved her to be near our retired parents. At the time, we had a 3 yr old and were coming out of the LA school system to move to a "new" and growing school system. Unfortunately, our daughter is now in middle school in what I have to think is one of the worst systems I've ever encountered. We are now trying to move out of Vegas in order to get her educated and hopefully into a better college system. If I was single or didn't have a child, this would be a great place. Our parents love it. We will be trying to relocate to Texas as soon as we can get our house sold.

I moved within walking distance to my daughter so that she would spend time with me. She visited twice, since moving to Las Vegas she has visited me 4 times in one yr.

Family and friends are a big motivator. My fiance and I are moving back to California next month, and me missing my friends and family is one of the main reasons. I think it's important to be smart about it though. We are going to save money by living with a friend and our jobs are transferring. As much as I miss everyone, we would not move back without jobs and an affordable living situation. I am so glad that I moved to Vegas though, since I met a lot of great people (including my fiance) and experienced something different. It has been a positive experience, and I'm remaining openminded about where I might live in the future.

YOu know I never partied in Las Vegas. Spent a lot of time here...but it was all 18 hour days. Used to fly home at 2AM...get to the office at 7AM work until noon and fly back to Vegas. Repeat...

Sometimes we would even have a high roller suite. But even then we would spend 5 hours a night in it.

Never saw a show. Never got a drink unless it was working. Certainly never got off the strip.

Had some nice dinners since I have been here. But I have never been to a LV nightclub.

Still a virgin...

And FWIW, I didn't move here to party either, although I've grown accustomed to it now

The desert can be hard to get used to unless you are native to it.

I keep dreaming of living in a 55+ community within walking distance of a light rail stop and donating my car to charity. I'm dreading that day when a Doctor informs me I can't drive anymore, I must surrender my license, and I'm stranded with very limited options.
It is not like you have to go somewhere everyday and most cities offer paratransit services if you cannot drive.
