yes, there are a thousand threads on this, and a Wikipedia article. It's not a big deal.

The strip is in Clark County and is not in any municipality.

It is in the town of Paradise which is a town in Clark County. Such towns in fact are advisory and have no municipal authority.

It does however have a Las Vegas zip code and is in the Las Vegas Valley.

So it can correctly be referred to as Las Vegas...even though not in the City there of.

The city limits along Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip) end on the north side of Sahara Avenue. The Sahara Hotel is where the Strip begins. This entire metropolitan area is called Las Vegas although technically it is three cities, a few unincorporated townships, and plain old county land. The other two cities are Henderson and North Las Vegas, but it all runs together. The Las Vegas Valley covers about 1500 sq. miles give or take 100. Clark County is just over 8,000 sq. miles, which is almost the size of Vermont, to give you some perspective of the vastness of Nevada, and there are very few people in the county outside of Las Vegas. MapQuest shows it all: Map of Las Vegas, Nevada by MapQuest

Several of the other 16 counties are much larger than this one and most have less than 10,000 population, with usually only one actual town. Our nearest neighbor, Nye County is 18,000 sq. miles and has only two small towns, the largest being 65 miles from Las Vegas, but over 100 miles from the Nye County seat. Imagine needing to make a quick trip to the courthouse to file a form. Nye contains the Nevada (Atomic Bomb) Test Site, and the Nellis AFB Bombing and Gunnery Range, as well as the infamous Area 51. Those "facilities" are larger than some eastern states.

Miami is the same way. Most people think of it as a huge city, and in fact, it has the fourth largest metro population in the country behind only NY, LA & Chicago:

Miami - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However, what most people consider "Miami" is actually made up of many smaller municipalities. I, myself, grew up in the Town of West Miami, which is just north of the city of South Miami and just outside Coral Gables. (Speaking of Coral Gables, that's where the University of Miami is located.)

The city of Miami itself is quite small, with a population of just over 400,000. In fact, Miami's population is even less than the city of Las Vegas:

The same could be said about Orlando with it's attractions. Only Universal Studios is actually within Orlando city limits. Sea World is in unincorporated Orange County, and Disney World has it's own 2 municipalities, one is Lake Buena Vista, the other is Bay Lake. And International Drive which is where all the hotels are is partly in city limits, with the oldest hotels in the city limits (same as Vegas I guess)

The Orlando Metro has a population of about two million even, which includes Orlando, and 4 surrounding counties (Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Lake) But the city itself only has about 230,000 people

Isn't Nye where Art Bell broadcasted from after midnight?

mod interpose: yes, on the outskirts of Pahrump but let's not let the thread drift to another topic, please. Thanks. --'r

Which is correct but somewhat misleading. Paradise NV exists as a Citizens Advisory Board on land use and such. It has no other existence.

The strip is simply in the County of Clark for all municipal functions...ie building permits, or fire protection or business licenses etc.
