Due to sheer numbers, you shouldn't have any trouble being accepted.
Sadly being British is not sufficient grounds in the eyes of USCIS for granting immigration benefits!

The OP should plan his university major carefully for jobs that are in high demand in the US.

I second the recommendation to work for a company in England that has offices in the United States.

That's how most of my British coworkers have gotten into the United States.

Probably not totally accurate (2008) but somewhat relevant!

Whatever the past numbers, you are talking absolute, complete nonsense when you say that "Due to sheer numbers, you shouldn't have any trouble being accepted"

I got my green card in a different way. I was at university in the uk when my parents both moved to the us. As I was still under 21 and therefore 'a dependent' then I could have an 'age out fast track' in getting a green card. 8 months later, I had one just a few weeks before my 21st birthday. I then graduated and after tiring of the uk, moved to the us - which is where I now live - very easily.
I admit, this is a fairly unique tale but I didn't have any trouble at all and I consider myself very lucky to have a green card.

But that's not relevant to his thread, is it. Just saying.
