Indigenous white Anglo-Saxon English immigrants to the USA, Canada, Australia (where they are called "Pomigrants" "Pommys" or "Poms" due to the sunburns they would receive resembling the color of the pomegranate fruit,) New Zealand, as well as a few other places in the empire, have always been the least discriminated against immigrant group in those countries.
And with the exception of perhaps Utah, nowhere in the USA have they had as large an impact on the population of immigrants and the population in general during the last two centuries (and before) as they have in Maine.
Due to sheer numbers, you shouldn't have any trouble being accepted.
Sadly being British is not sufficient grounds in the eyes of USCIS for granting immigration benefits!

I got my green card in a different way. I was at university in the uk when my parents both moved to the us. As I was still under 21 and therefore 'a dependent' then I could have an 'age out fast track' in getting a green card. 8 months later, I had one just a few weeks before my 21st birthday. I then graduated and after tiring of the uk, moved to the us - which is where I now live - very easily.
I admit, this is a fairly unique tale but I didn't have any trouble at all and I consider myself very lucky to have a green card.
But that's not relevant to his thread, is it. Just saying.
