Hi!

I have been trying to coordinate information, documents, people, and myself in regard to obtaining a 2nd passport/citizenship for Mexico.

My father was born in Mexico, and became a naturalized US citizen. I was born here in the US.

Who can I contact who can give me straight, consistent information in regard to doing this? And is bilingual?

I have contacted several Mexican embassies here in the US in regard to do this. With all of these embassies, their procedures for obtaining a 2nd Passport/Dual Citizenship with Mexico are different and conflicting.

Unfortunately, I don't speak Spanish. I have been good with using Google translate on my phone to communicate if I have visited an embassy in person. I have been lucky in finding someone who is bilingual every time I have called these embassies.

Thank you for your time and attention to my post.

Hi,
As per the NYC Consulate website (which by the way is awful ), you might be able to figure it.

But in a nutshell the steps are simple:
1. There is a form that you have submit with your application (Link is broken so call them for that)
2. Provide Mexican Birth Certificate **
3. Bring your Official US ID (your US Passport or DL will be enough)
4. Bring 2 Color Photos (passport type)
5. Pay Fee ($14)

**This one is tricky because as per their site. This applies only to minors, but that's the only way you might get a Mexican Birth Certificate:
a) Make an appointment at (212) 217-6445
b) Your father has to go with you and provide evidence that he is Mexican (his Mexican Passport should be good enough)
c) Your American Birth Certificate

But I'd recommend you to give them a call @ 212-217-6420
I had call the NYC Consulate in the past in Spanish & English and whoever answers the phone is fluent is both. So you should be fine.

Just treat the other person with the same respect you treat any other US government bureaucrat, because I have seen how some fellow Mexicans always complain about how rude the folks at the Consulate are, but what these folks don't say is that they are the ones who put themselves into that position by being total jerks when dealing with them.

BTW, thanks for confirming my hypothesis about each Consulate having their own process and own requirements LOL
