Stop following/watching/reading the news - even the headlines.

It is the cause of your depression:FUD - fear, uncertainty, doubt created in order to control you and get “followers” (profit + political influence = more profits)

You are a classic case.
Where do you get money to pay your psychologist? What a waste: turn off the incessant stream of the bait click information - get into physical labor - where you are so tired that you just want to chill with the cold drink in your hand - but go easy on another depressant - alcohol.
Nature if available to you could be great

Concentrate on developing your skills to be productive, to follow your interests, to create a daily comfort for yourself so you feel good or just create - if you are artistic.

Realize that we can’t change the world individually - we are just witnesses, there is no perfect country to be immune from the chaos/evils of the world - as the only constant thing is change - your perfect place if found - would change in a jiffy - your intentions are futile.

You should already know that being a Buddhist?

You will be changing one set of perceived problems with another set in another country
You can’t run from yourself - it is you and not your country.

Moving elsewhere - gives you an illusion of control
If you stop the stream of the info - you would stop being surrounded by “the decadence” of the Western World.

If you move away from the Western world you would be surrounded by cut-throats, begging people, gangs, filth, starving animals, corruption, pollution, diseases and helplessness you feel right now.

People lived their lives even under bombs - the best they could, falling in love, making babies and going on.
The US will be ok: you could re-evaluate if the actual bombs would start falling on US - if that happens - there wouldn’t be a place on Earth to be safe.
Why would you even want to live in that fiery world ?

Good luck

but the US is doomed

Please explain - and in a way that shows why you, in particular, need to flee, but the rest of us can stay.

OP, I have nothing to add besides to say read post #11 by Look4rward a bunch of times, then act upon it. Turn off whatever doomsday news feed you are reading or listening to. The world will go on with or without you.

I was talking to some Ukrainians who have been living in Germany for awhile but are leaving soon and returning to Ukraine. I asked them about the risks and dangers, and they said they are going to a small town in west-central Ukraine that is not a target for any military activity. Even in Ukraine there are places where everyday life is pretty normal and life goes on.

Somewhere where I can potentially find refuge from the problems of the western world.
I am baffled. Why in the world do you think there will be ANY country not affected by a major war involving the US? A war involving the US will affect trade and economy worldwide.

Very true. The only things that are REALLY needed is a valid passport, transportation and some cash for start. A credit card might do to, but could be questionable in some remote spot in Third World.
Yes, desperate people just leave, often with nothing more than a shirt on their back.
It takes guts, though.

Planning a move of this caliber...maybe...on a contingency... but can't Google himself?

You...believe... You could literally read ONE paragraph on Wikipedia and know the answer:

it's really far away
Why is "far" out of the question when you want to escape from everything? Far would seem ideal.

and I doubt they let in many foreigners, especially not foreigners like myself with pretty much no professional skills or qualifications.
The ease with which you could have gotten answers to this.... https://www.eurosender.com/en/rr/moving-to/mauritius
You should probably not wait until ...**** goes south...to try and make a life somewhere else. Go now while the gettings good...or don't. And brush up on those Google skills.
Maybe ask ChatGPT?

That's all well and good but I have no idea which country I can go to. I'm not worried about language learning. I'm really good at learning languages anyway, I know six of them so far.

In addition to what it's said already, you need to stop reading publications focusing on extreme right or left news. Those that express extreme bias, consistently promote propaganda & conspiracy theories, and publish fake news.
Use your common sense and compare news from several reliable sources.

Then make a list of all countries and start a process of elimination.
