Hello,

I'm from France and I'd like to study acting in California for two or three years. I know I can get a student visa,
but the school I want to attend is particularly expansive, so I'd like to take the evening lessons, that are more affordable and would allow me to work a little.
So, as a "part-time student' I think I can't have a student visa, can I ?

What kind of visa can I have ?

Thanks for answering ! =)

Your best bet is to go the USCIS link which you can find in the sticky at the top of this forum page. I don't believe you're able to work in any capacity if you enter the US on a student visa and also, to obtain the student visa, have to prove that you're able to sustain yourself financially for the duration of that visa.

To be honest, I think you don't stand much of a chance of qualifying for any sort of a visa unless you have either a sponsor or are able to prove that you can be self-sustaining.

I think the site I referenced will be helpful. Bon chance.

You are allowed to work on the university/college campus, up to 20 hours per week. Hence the number of foreign TAs at a lot of US schools.

But can't work off campus, correct?

You can also go there:

Travail (http://french.france.usembassy.gov/niv-travail.html - broken link)

They provide info about the different types of visa.
