Applicants who wish to apply for citizenship of the United States must:
  • be at least 18 years of age, mentally competent
  • have lived in the United States prior to filing an application
  • be of good moral character, demonstrate your willingness to support and embrace the Constitution
  • and be able to pass the educational requirements of basic English language including reading, writing and using common words in English.
Also; you must have a basic knowledge of the government and history of the United States. It will be up to the individual tester or interviewer to give the test and determine your ability to understand the English language.
There are exceptions to these requirements; for details of each please visit the Federal Regulations website.

Remember, there are local organizations and community development centers all around Texas that offer English classes and other educational programs about U.S. History. Check your local county directory for a list of communities near you.

It is not an official link but a bit of this and a bit of that. Nothing like some half truth to confuse the confused even more.
