we are a retired 50something couple looking to relocate off of Long Island. it has become WAY too expensive to live here. we are looking to move apx. 2-2.5 hours from NYC. kids all live in brooklyn so we don't want to go further. we are looking for low property taxes, a small home with a more country setting. we want a pool and a large garden. we heard Bethlehem area is quite nice and very afforadble!! is this true?? if not, where else in this basic area of PA should we look??? looking for taxes $3,000. or less and a 3bd small home.

Distance-wise you can look just about anywhere in the Lehigh Valley and be 2.5 hours from NYC. My daughter lived in Brooklyn last year and came home fairly often. The taxes will vary, of course, depending on the cost of your house. The better schools and services, the nicer the house, the higher your taxes. Might help if you give us some more hints on what you are looking for. The sticky at the top of this forum has little questionnaire that will help.

Bethlehem is a beautiful area, not sure if you will find a 3 bedroom home with taxes under 3k. You will probably be able to find something with taxes between 3-4K in a good neighborhood in Bethlehem. The ride to Brooklyn will be about 90 miles, you can drive there door to door in 1.5 hours if you hit no traffic. The north and west side of town are very nice as well as Bethlehem Township and Hanover Township, lots of luck in your search.
