My husband starts his new job there in a month. We will only be there for 3 years tops, so buying is out of the question. I am striking out as far as rentals go. Also my daugter is going into high school this year. Is this a good school system? I prefer a single family home if possible.

ashleysmommee,
Have you looked at the sticky at the top of this forum? There are several links for rental searches. Unfortunately, you are looking at a small town that probably does not have very many rentals. I wonder if you would consider looking a little further out. As you can see by this link: Schooldigger.com comparison results Northampton is below average as far as standardized testing goes. I'm not saying that you should choose your district based solely on scores, but these scores would concern me, especially since you have a child about to enter High School. I believe you are within commuting distance of Parkland school district which is one of the best school districts in the Valley.Walnutport, PA to Parkland High School - Google Maps

What I've found in my area, which is also a small town, is that people will just stick a "for rent" sign in the front yard of the house and not even list it anywhere else.

I did check out the rentals that are posted online and only came with 1 or 2 hits. I did call a real estate agent and she told me the same thing. Usually people put the signs in yard. I guess I'm going to have to roll into town with a u-haul and find something when I get there. I need to get a feel for the general area. I want to live somewhere in between Walnutport and Allentown so hopefully that will open up some prospects.

A couple of towns or areas are Schnecksville and Orefield. Both are in Parkland School district, an easy commute to Walnutport and close to Parkland High School for your daughters school activities. This map shows the boundaries of Parkland School district: Parkland School District - Allentown PA I don't know where you are moving from but in Pennsylvania, the districts are very autonomous and there can be quite a bit of difference between each one.
