I will be starting a new job soon and I will be commuting from Lansdale PA turnpike to Allentown. I will be taking the NE Ext. as that is the most direct route. The company is just off the Allentown exit.

My hours are 8:30 to 5:30... Therefore, I will be on the road at 7:30 am and then at 5:30 pm. Can anyone tell me what the commute is like at that time? I may try to negotiate the hours a bit but any feedback on this particular commute would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Except for the constant construction on the turnpike, I think you'll be fine, even at those rush hour times. My husband and I take the turnpike from Quakertown south towards Philadelphia quite often and the volume picks up noticeably SOUTH of Lansdale, but is quite manageable North of it. The winter snows will be problematic, but not much you can do about that.

Here's more info than you'll probably need, but important if your job is critical and you must be at work on time.

I commute from Easton to the Valley Forge area 2 to 4 times a week. I pass Allentown and Lansdale each way. I wish my commute was as short as yours!!

The NE is a challenging road, and has its share of construction and crash delays. There are limited pull-offs and shoulders.

In the fall, the stretch between Allentown and Lansdale becomes what I call "the red road," due to the high volume of deer strikes every night.

Learn the RTE's 309 and 663 bypass. While there are many lights, it will help on the rare occasion the NE is shut down between the Allentown and Quakertown exits.
