Hi, everyone!

My fiance and I are planning to move to the Allentown area in a few months. We're young and will be going to school there as well as start a family in three or four years. We were wondering if anyone could help us by telling us about Allentown and the surrounding areas? Ideally, we want to rent an apartment or a nice half-double. Our price range is from $600-800 for a 1/1 or a 2/1 but would be willing to pay more if a lot of utilities are included of course. I've heard good things about Bethlehem and Easton.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Where are you going to school? I think you will find some helpful sites on the sticky at the top of this forum. I'm not really sure what you want to know.

I'll check out the sticky notes, thank you. I was thinking of maybe going to Cedar Crest College or LCCC. That's center Allentown, right? I would like to know which towns are best for college students and young couples. Just advice on where to move (and the areas to stay away from). We're very sociable, love making new friends, love the nightlife but also love being outdoors and the country side. A mix of the two would be ideal. Any advice on various reputable apartment complexes will be nice also. I have a list here (Hampshire House, Hidden Village apts, The Lakes, Allen Gardens, etc) but don't know if they have a good reputation or not.

Cedar Crest is in West Allentown. That's a nice area that would be fine to live in. LCCC is in Schencksville, Northwest of Allentown. I don't really know about apartments, but I would suggest looking at ones closest to Cedar Crest. Do not look at any in Center City Allentown or say from 15th street and further east. You might also consider looking in Emmaus, which is a very nice small town and a reasonable commute to either College.

West Allentown sounds good. I've around there a few times and it seems like a very nice neighborhood. I've heard about Emmaus, I'll check it out. I also answered the questions to make it easier on everyone (sorry I didn't answer them before!). Thank you so much for replying back!

When are you moving? Moving next year around Spring.

Where are you coming from?
Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Why are you moving? A more active lifestyle, a younger crowd, better quality of life, more opportunities.

Where will you be working?
Don't know yet.

Have you been here yet?
Yes. We've visited a lot of times.

Will you buy or rent?
Rent.

If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend?
Not buying.

If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Apartment or a townhouse would be fine. We can spend around $600-800 for a 1/1 or a 2/1, but we're willing to pay more if more utilities are included.

Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up?
No preference.

Are you married or single?
Engaged.

Do you have children?
No, but planning to start a family in a few years.

Do you prefer public or private schools?
Public mostly but I don't mind private.

Do you have pets? No, but we do want to get a puppy when we move.

Do you want or need a yard?
A yard would be nice but it's not a necessity.

Are you keeping a car?
Yes. Two cars.

Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? I prefer calm and quiet but activity is also good. It will be nice to be close to the city.

What do you want to be closest to?

Work Yes
Shopping Yes
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.) Yes
Nightlife Yes
Near Bus stop?
Please note that there is NO rail service in the Lehigh Valley.

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood?
I love diversity. I'm Hispanic though so if there are some in the neighborhood, even better!

Phillies or Mets?
Phillies!
