I remember when I lived in California, some people were always trying to change the names of zip codes for something they perceived as more "up to date" or prestigious.
For instance, Allentown as a zip code applies to 166K people, while the "City of Allentown" is 118K. Township names seldom appear on zip codes. The borough of Hellertown is less than 6K, while the Hellertown zip is 12K. Coopersburg zip is 13K, while borough is only 2.3K.

In a particularly wide disparity Easton City is 26.8K, while Easton zip codes are 83.7K. The zip codes with an Easton mailing address seem to include all of:
West Easton borough
Wilson borough
Glendon borough
Williams township
Forks township
Palmer township

Is there anyone on the forum who identifies themselves as living in some other place than the name on their zip code? Is there anyone unhappy with the name on their zip code?

Only in California would something like that exist...

Cities with post offices, be they Village, Town, or City or Megopolis, in the East dont bother worrying about identifying themselves with zip codes... We are just happy that the Post Office doesnt 'shut down' our local Post Office and combine them with bigger Post Offices, in order to 'slow down' our mail-->I havent ever seen it speed up delivery, so, it 'has' to be to slow it down!!! LOL.

I wish you well...

Jesse

I haven't heard of that around here but we lived in an area that was part of an undesirable zip code and town name when we lived in Delaware County. The area itself was several miles from the town that was "bad". After we moved the town name and zip was changed.

In Maryland sometimes the names were funny, like the Pigtown section of Baltimore, which is obviously where they slaughtered the pigs. I think that is kind of whimsical, and I wouldn't want to change the name.

But sometimes the objection was to the "old fashioned" sounding name. They would want something like "Silent Meadows alongside Babbling Brook" that they felt made the real estate more valuable.

These all seem to be named for early German settlers

18010 Ackermanville ( 610/484 )
18011 Alburtis ( 610/484 )
18014 Chapmans ( 610/484 )
18017 Butztown ( 610/484 )
18030 Bowmanstown ( 610/484 )
18038 Danielsville ( 610/484 )
18051 Fogelsville ( 610/484 )
18065 Neffs ( 610/484 )
18077 Riegelsville ( 610/484 )
18078 Schnecksville ( 610/484 )

These two look like native American names

18012 Aquashicola ( 610/484 )
18052 Hokendauqua ( 610/484 )

Awesome link about Lehigh Valley places with Lenape (Native American) origins:
Catasauqua, Tatamy, Aquashicola . . . . What Do They Mean??

I work at the church in Aquashicola and had always wondered what the name meant

I would have to guess Oklahoma to your question, because I visited the Pocono Indian Museum some years back, and they had a picture of the last full-blooded Delaware Indian, and it was stated that she passed away in Oklahoma some time ago. I believe her last name was "Dean," if my memory serves correctly (it was over 20 yrs ago I visited the museum)

Correct. The Lenape were forcibly deported to Oklahoma along with the Cherokee in America's version of the death march.
