I remember when I lived in California, some people were always trying to change the names of zip codes for something they perceived as more "up to date" or prestigious.

I haven't heard of that around here but we lived in an area that was part of an undesirable zip code and town name when we lived in Delaware County. The area itself was several miles from the town that was "bad". After we moved the town name and zip was changed.

In Maryland sometimes the names were funny, like the Pigtown section of Baltimore, which is obviously where they slaughtered the pigs. I think that is kind of whimsical, and I wouldn't want to change the name.
But sometimes the objection was to the "old fashioned" sounding name. They would want something like "Silent Meadows alongside Babbling Brook" that they felt made the real estate more valuable.
These all seem to be named for early German settlers

I would have to guess Oklahoma to your question, because I visited the Pocono Indian Museum some years back, and they had a picture of the last full-blooded Delaware Indian, and it was stated that she passed away in Oklahoma some time ago. I believe her last name was "Dean," if my memory serves correctly (it was over 20 yrs ago I visited the museum)

Correct. The Lenape were forcibly deported to Oklahoma along with the Cherokee in America's version of the death march.
