Hi, my family and I (husband and 2 toddler boys) are planning to move to PA within a few months. We are originally from NJ and moved to ATL in 2007. However, ATL is not a fit for us and we would like to return up North, but Jersey is too expensive. Our family is from Essex county area and we are looking for a PA town close to NJ. Please HELP!!! We don't even know where to start.

When are you moving? 3-5 months
Where are you coming from? hampton, ga (southeast of ATL)
Why are you moving? culture, lifestyle, education, healthcare, employment
Where will you be working? currently searching (considering PA, NJ, & NY)
Have you been here yet? Easton only (but didn't sightsee)
Will you buy or rent? rent
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend?
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? apartment. $900 2BR (realistic?)
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? walk up

Are you married or single? Do you have children? married. 2 toddler boys
Do you prefer public or private schools? public
Do you have pets? no
Do you want or need a yard? no
Are you keeping a car? yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? calm & quiet but pretty close to activity

What do you want to be closest to?
Work yes hopefully
Shopping somewhat
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.) yes
Nightlife not so much
Schools preferably
Near Bus stop? Please note that there is NO rail service in the Lehigh Valley. somewhat

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? diverse neighborhood but family oriented

Phillies or Mets? mets

My suggestions would be to find a job and then figure out where to live. Just avoid living within the city limits if you want a better school district. Pennsylvania has very small school districts so living outside of the city pretty much guarantees that you won't be within the city school district lines.

Do not move to south side with kids, its not that type of area. Its not a bad area to visit, but I wouldnt move there if I had young children.

Hanover Township is great, right off 22 - near Wegmans and the airport.
Pointe North, Stafore Estates - near the Hanover Township Community Center and Pool. Great park programs throughout the community. I commute to NYC, near bus station too...
