Hey folks, is there anywhere in Forks Township or thereabouts that I can buy beer by the six-pack? My husband has been buying by the case, but sometimes we just want to buy a six-pack. Thanks much.

The only place in PA you can buy beer by the six-pack is at a bar or restaurant that serves alcohol.

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with Forks Township, so I can't recommend any places in particular.

There have been numerous petitions to overturn this stupid, stupid law, but the state seems to make too much money off of strangling the life out of drinkers.

Wegman's sells 6 packs and has a good selection of craft beers. There is one in Allentown. I don't know if that is near FT.

Thanks BTA88 and Jimazee. I'm looking to buy a six-pack for someone and that someone likes Amstel Light. Jimazee, do you know if Wegman's carries that brand? Maybe I should give them a call. There's one near me in Easton.

Restaurants are required to sell no more than two six-packs in Pennsylvania. You will find that over a period of time, that you are paying a lot of money for your beer.

Wegman's or Giant are manipulating the law by essentially creating restaurants attached to their store. The legal requirements of a restaurant are that they serve hot foot, have seating for 60 people, have a separate entrance, and if you drink on the premises you must order food. There is no legal requirement that a certain percentage of the alcohol must be drunk on the premise. If you purchase beer at Wegman's they will ask you if you want to drink it on the premises. Probably 80% or of the time the answer is no, but they maintain the legal requirement of a restaurant by asking the question. The beer distributors have, understandably, been suing the grocery stores.

In many cases you can find a bar/restaurant that puts their 6 packs in a refrigerated case near the entrance. That way the different prices and selections are clearly visible and you don't have to get the bartender to go into the back room.

At the very least, the beer distributors should be permitted to sell 12-packs. With their overhead many customers will be able to buy 12-packs at a distributor for not much more than a 6-pack at a bar.

Since you are in a suburban area, there probably are not a lot of places where you can get a 6-pack besides Wegman's. Perhaps (Widows Tavern and Grille 200 Main Street Stockertown, PA 18083) is an option if it is closer. They also have pub specials at specific times.

It's usually just cheaper to buy the case, makes more sense unless you only go through a 6-pack every 6 months or something.

Amstel Light Lager, Light
$9.99 for 6 pack (72 oz) at Wegman's Bethlehem
$18.99 for 12 pack (144 oz) at Wegman's Bethlehem
$29.99 for case of 24 (288 oz) at Tanczos beer distributor a mile away

Sierra Nevada Lager, Celebration
$9.99 for 6 pack (72 oz)at Wegman's Bethlehem
$35.99 for case of 24 (288 oz) at Tanczos beer distributor a mile away

The markup is usually from $1 to $2.50 per six pack just to purchase the smaller quantity. I am not sure that I understand the attraction unless you have three relatives coming who all insist on their own brand of beer (which you hate).

The prohibition against selling single beers especially single cheap malt liquor makes sense. As a compromise, maybe they should allow the distributors to sell 12 packs of a dozen popular brands.
