We currently live in a very affluent suburb of NYC but are considering moving away for a more comfortable quality of life, etc. We don't know anything about PA but would be looking to spend 250k on a home in a very good school district. Schools are the most important thing to us as we have a young family. Thanks!

You haven't said if you want to commute, how many children you have or what your bathroom requirements are (tolerable to comfortable). But there are currently 5 four bedroom homes for sale in Nazareth PA from $250K-$300K. Nazareth is known for having a very good school district.

Although PA is cheaper than northern NJ, if you are expecting a 5 bedroom 3.5 bath reasonably new home with a large lot for $250K, it is not that inexpensive.

If you are commuting to New Jersey probably the only options by bus are the financial district in Jersey City. Other than that you have a long drive. Some details will help.

I agree with Paco, the Lehigh Valley is probably less expensive then Northern Jersey but anything on the eastern edge of the state is going to be higher priced then towns to the west of Allentown. $250,000 will just get you into the market of nice homes (but not new) in my area.

If you want good schools you'll need to be in Lehigh County away from the NJ line. You're not likely to find a suitable house in those areas in your price range.

I would be surprised if you can get a 4 bedroom house (or even 3) in a good (suburban) school district for under $250K.

You could certainly do one of the townhouses in Center Valley, though (3 bedroom, 3 floor, 1 car garage).

The OP has lost interest in PA, they are looking at Raleigh NC region.
