Hi all- it's been a while since I've been on since we were so early to look for housing to start this summer. We found a nice looking home in Doylestown and are thinking of making the drive from DC to check it out, but I hadn't before heard of the area. Can anyone give me any insight on that area and what it would be like to work at DeSales, and raise 3 small children there? Any thoughts about the school district? Thanks so much!

I'm a bit confused. The last time you posted you were concerned about finding something affordable near DeSales and now you are looking at Doylestown where the cost of living is higher?

I love Doylestown, but it's Bucks county. Bucks county = expensive.

I have never heard of the Doylestown area, so did not realize the cost of living is higher. I was not aware of the differences between the counties- I just saw that it was about a 20 min. drive from DeSales according to Google (who knows what real life is like), and we found an affordable home that we were considering, but I just don't know anything about the area. I will check out the COL calculator you linked to. Thanks so much!

I should add- we found a rental home of interest, not for sale. We are really looking primarily at renting at this point, since we really want to get to know the area before buying.

That makes sense, except Doylestown is much closer to a 40 minute than 20 minutes drive - it's 22 miles, and the majority will be a two lane road. Doylestown is a great place to live, just not known for it's bargains or a common commute from this way.

I've noticed a lot more houses being offered for sale. I would really encourage you to contact a realtor, even though you are just looking for a rental. Also, see if you can get the Penny power sent to you. That's the local free paper that comes out on Wednesdays and people will advertise there. Have you checked Zillow recently? Houses for Rent in Upper Saucon Township PA - 15 Homes - Zillow

These homes look to be a mix of school districts: Houses for Rent in - 18 Homes - Zillow Macungie and Emmaus are East Penn School District, but Zionsville is Southern Lehigh.

Well, that house is out- oil heating that I imagine would cost a fortune, and a linger than desired commute. Thanks for the input, as always! We do have a realtor sending us listings, but there are just so few in our price range. We still have lots of time, I am just getting nervous about finding a place in the busy summer rental season and as a mother of 3 I like to be organized and prepared!!! Great idea about seeing if they can mail me the Penny Power- will check that out for sure.
