Here's an easy tool to check out our local schools: Pennsylvania school scores: How does the Lehigh Valley rank? | lehighvalleylive.com

Quote:
Pennsylvania today released rankings of every school in the state.

It's the second year the state's issued the School Performance Profiles, which are based on test scores as well as graduation and promotion rates, increasing achievement of all students, and year-over-year student academic growth.

A score of 70 or better out of a possible 100 is considered an indicator that a school is in good shape on track for success, state officials have said.
As usual take the numbers with a grain of salt!

Of course take the numbers with a grain of salt, but I find this to be a very realistic representation of my home district (Pen Argyl Area). That is pretty much exactly where I'd place it on a list of those school districts. It is a valuable tool for those looking to move into the area though!

What a difference thirty years makes. In the 1980's, Allen High School had an excellent academic reputation, so impressive that some Parkland parents opted to pay a fee and send their children to Allen High School. (in the Allentown School District)

Some more positive press for the NASD

Nazareth Area School District releases state report card rankings | lehighvalleylive.com

The article says the district ranked #3 in the LV and #33 in PA. I'm guessing that Parkland & East Penn were one and two from the High School ranking above, but the article doesn't specify.

I remember this too valley slacker, in fact my mom's best friend and her family wanted to move out of the city to a bigger home with more land, but they purposely waited until their children had all graduated. And the marching band was huge and so impressive, I remember seeing them at the band competitions cleaning up all the awards.

I think the district wide measurements can be deceptive, and you have to look at elementary schools apart from secondary schools. Often an individual elementary school in an otherwise poor performing district can do well, with parents opting to send their children to Catholic or other private schools for secondary education.

Sometimes people have more money as they get older, and move to better school districts.

Catasauqua Area School District is one of the more extreme examples.
88.7 Francis H Sheckler Elementary School
75.7 Catasauqua Middle School
68.2 Catasauqua High School
