I currently live in NY. We are moving to the macungie area in May.
My husband's health plan is GHI. We are trying to find doctors, pediatricians that will accept it. I dont really want to switch plans, but i could if I really really have to.
Is anyone here a transplant from NY with GHI, or does anyone have any information on the insurance plans that are big out in PA?
thanks so much!
Kathy

I'm not familiar with GHI. The two I know of here in PA is Aetna and Independence Blue Cross.

Just what I was going to say. We have Aetna now but used to have Blue Cross.

We have Capital Blue Cross, which is one of the most common insurers in our area. Another popular one is Highmark Blue Shield.

My husband works in NY (we're from NY, too) and we live in NJ now, but we're close to the Lehigh Valley.
As far as I know a lot of doctors around there only take certain insurances, so I don't know. We have GHI dental and it was a huge PITA finding a dentist, but there are a few that do accept it in Allentown and Easton.

Try checking out your insurance company's website. That's how I managed to find my doctors/dentists.

Good luck.

The most popular pediatric practice around here is ABC Pediatrics - they have several offices. I would call them and ask if they accept your insurance.

Check and see, I am pretty sure GHI has a web site that should have a list of participating doctors in different areas.

Default thanks

thanks to everyone for your information.

I have checked the GHI website, and they do have participating family practitioners in the PA area, the problem with the GHI website is that they rarely update it, and since GHI is primarily NY it doesnt list all doctors in other states. That was why I was asking on here, hoping maybe someone relocated from here with that insurance and had some success in finding doctors.
As I said i could switch to Aetna but I think for now that is the only one we can switch to.. If my husband gets a job in PA we may be able to switch to something else, but with 3 boys -and one with a healing collarbone- I kind of want to be able to have one as soon as I move.
thanks again.

My mil just retired and moved to the lehigh valley from the city. She has GHI insurance and has a hard time finding doctors that accept her plan. Her primary care dr is 25 miles away and the specialist she needs to see is in NJ. I would definitely look around for another plan.

The GHI book and website listed many participating drs but when she called they said they werent participating.
