If you do so by transit I’m assuming you drive to a NJ railroad station and park?

I don't know anyone that does it daily from my end of Lehigh County. I know some pilots that fly out of EWR but they only do it maybe three days a week. I also know a couple of people that work remotely three days a week and go into the city two days. They take a bus from Hellertown. From my area, the nearest train stop is an hour away and then the ride would be another hour, compared to catching the bus- 20 minutes away, plus the ride 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 hours. Parking for the bus is free and hassle free. I would guess that the people that do daily commutes live closer to NJ than where I am. I have heard of people that moved here with the intention of doing that, but no one ended up doing it more than a couple of years. They either moved or got a more local job.

I did the commute once a week from the William Penn Park & Ride to Penn Station. It's a pretty easy ride, but is about 2.5 hours round trip (plus the time it takes to go from the Pt. Authority to your destination). It's less, maybe 2 hours during off peak hours.

Transbridge is great, and they even have an app. I would not recommend commuting every day, maybe once a week as a max.

Central Railroad of NJ (CNJ) provided service between Allentown and NYC (well New Jersey ferry terminal on North River) via their famous "Queen of the Valley" trains.

Sadly NYC-Allentown passenger service ended in 1961, and now freight RR owns much of the ROW and has *NO* interest in allowing passenger service to run over their tracks ever again.
