How bad is the commute from bethlehem to nyc. What time should I leave in the morning heading to nyc.

You would need to be at the Holland or Lincoln Tunnel by no later that 6:30, which means you'd probably need to leave Bethlehem by 5am at the latest.

Probably a better bet would be to either drive to Annandale in NJ (exit 18 off of 78) and take NJ Transit (still probably a 40 minute drive, before over an hour on the train, but at least you could do something while on the train and you wouldn't need to worry about tunnel traffic) OR drive to Easton and take the bus to Port Authority in NYC - so that's a 15 minute drive, followed by an hour and a half on the bus.

It's just a terrible commute - I seriously hope you have other options.

78 gets very congested during rush hour. I agree you would need to leave by at least 5 am to beat most of the rush.

So, for the Bronx, you're looking at 78 & 95...probably at least an 1hr 45min drive under good circumstances - which you won't get during commute times.

I guess it depends on what time you would like to arrive at your job. In general, you're probably looking at around 4-5 hours in the car each day.

From bethlehem to the GW Bridge is about an hr and a half with no traffic. then what ever time it would take you to cross the bridge and get to your destination. Figure atleast 2 1/2 hrs with traffic.

Commuting seems more trouble than it's worth. You save money on living expenses but the traffic going into the city is unpredictable.

SO TRUE!!!

And given the price of gas these days, the lower cost of housing is going to be quite undercut by the cost of fueling a car for that commute everyday...
