Good grief. So I'm looking at a 4000 oil bill this winter if I prepay.

Yeah...which is why we aren't prepaying this year. We're doing a flexible budget so we don't get locked in at such a high price. According to the company we go with, it's the best choice due to the fact that it's likely the price of oil will drop over the summer.

Default Additional question about oil heat

I've only ever had electric. In the allentown area, if i'm in a 20 year old house that's about 1500 sq feet and keep my heat set around 68, how outrageous are my prices going to be? I know you can't give exact, but does anyone have an idea? I'm just trying to plan my budget and was curious about what to expect w/ utilities. Thanks!

The company we go with is George's P & H, but we're in Carbon County technically. (Palmerton/Lehighton area) Right now we're looking at 350 per month based on our past deliveries and the price they set. It's a crappy situation no matter how you look at it.

Our house is probably closer to 2500 square feet, only 20 years old and it's a ppl energy plus home. We have an electric heat pump for air and heat and pay anywhere from $150 - $300 per month. More when our older kids are home taking showers and using the big appliances, less on the months where we have nothing on, like right now.

It really depends on how well insulated the home is. We called our the oil provider that the previous owner used and they told us what the average consumption had been for the past few years. Ours turned out to be within 100 gallons of that, so it was pretty accurate. Maybe you can call the provider?
