My husband has just taken a new job (located in Allentown) which will require us to relocate. My husband's new job will require him to travel so being close to the office is not necessary. However, I would prefer not to be more than 35-40 miles away.

We currently live in Cary, North Carolina (outside of Raleigh) and I am looking for a area that is comprobable (low in crime, great schools, great sense of community and easy access to resturants, shopping, etc).

Your suggestions and/or comments are most appreciated.

Best Regards,
On The Move - NC

Be prepared to pay that now and watch the same home be selling for 185-210k in 2 years. Check out the housing market. It's already fallen 30% or more this year alone around here.

check out the lower macungie area. there are quite a few people on here that live there and rave about it. are you interested in a subdivision type thing or a more old time neighborhood? most of the home for sale in LM are subdivisions, but they also have the best sense of community and the most children around.

emmaus has a great school district (east penn township). and LM is in this district.

Most of the small towns surrounding Allentown and Bethlehem will fit your bill. If you read through a few of these pages you will find that your criteria is pretty much what most people are looking for. Check out SchoolMatters - Home (http://www.schoolmatters.com/ - broken link) or Search for Pennsylvania public schools. for some school comparisons. The highest rated large school districts are Parkland and East Penn. To be closer to shopping and have a smaller district, look at Southern Lehigh, still good ratings. If you do a search on this site with those school district names, you should be able to get more personal info.

We would prefer a newer subdivision because of our 2 kids (ages 13 & 8).

Thank you so much for comments and suggestions.

We live in Lower Macungie (moved here last year) and are very happy with everything: the community, the schools, the house, etc.

We looked all around the Lehigh valley, and finally settled on Lower Macungie (East Penn SD). We liked that the schools were close together and that there were lots of transplants like ourselves, which made meeting people and making friends very easy.

KristyLiz,

Thank you for your suggestions. We are planning a trip up the following weekend and I will surely check out the Lower Macungie area.

Thanks Again,
